March is a warm season where flowers blossom abundantly in China. For leprosy villages, especially the project sites of The Shalom in Yunnan province, spring seems even warmer and pleasant. The rehabilitation clients here not only share the love from Shalom volunteers, but also the love from the USA, Japan, and India. They brought money, goods and love for the clients. In the month full of love, the Shalom built solar-powered bathrooms, sponsored children who dropped out of school, and purchased a three-wheel motorbike for the clients in Yiliang.

The Shalom will complete the installation for the power supply and pipes for the solar-powered bathrooms as soon as possible, so that people can soon enough enjoy a commodity as simple as a hot shower.

He works for the patients with eye problems on eye care, providing eye masks and protective goggles to them. He also studied with the Japanese experts on how to protect the patients with feet ulcer early this year. He posted special foot pads from Japan besides providing medicine support.

On March 5th, he came to Kunming again and visited Yimen leprosy village with the volunteers of Shalom the next day. He treated the patients and made diagnosis for them. He also made shoe pads for the patients.

On March 6th, Mr. Higuchi went to leprosy village of Yiliang with the volunteers early in the morning. They checked the construction progress of the solar-powered bath room. Then they did medical checkup and made shoe pads for the patients.

On Feb. 8, Dr. Liang, the founder of Shalom, and volunteers raised some funds and bought 30 pairs of rubber boots for a leprosy village in Yiliang. They also distributed shoe-pads donated by Japanese doctors who use them to better protect their patients' feet.

Led by the grace of God, volunteers from China and abroad visited a leprosy village in Yimen of Yunnan Province before Christmas. They celebrated the holiday with over 20 rehabilitation clients (lepers). Considering that most of them are old and weak, and the weather in the mountain areas is extremely chilly, the volunteers provided electric blankets to each of the clients and an electric heater to every 5 households. The volunteers also donated a lot of clothing for winter use as well as food to them.

It was the fourth time that one of the volunteers visited Yimen. She was so excited to see her old friend, the wife of the village chief. Both of them greeted each other with a warm hug. Some volunteers helped to clean up the wound and coated it with ointment. Other volunteers handed out gifts, cleaned clothes for the villagers, and chatted with them. The volunteers also performed plays with teachers from International School for the clients. All of them enjoyed a Christmas full of love and happiness.

The night of 11/4, teacher Liang arranged a mini-van and told the driver to take off at 9:30 next morning for Luquan.  The road condition is relatively good inside the city, but it got more bumpy as we got off the city limit. Especially when the mini-van traveled on the dirt road in the countryside, I felt as though the mini-van were dancing. As the road condition got less comfortable, my initial curiosity and excitement subsided, and my mind evolved into a state of unrest.

Before we entered the leprosy village in the mountain, we rarely see any pedestrians or cars, other than a few big trucks transporting mines. This tells us how remote and isolated this mountain village is. These villagers settled down here are all by themselves.

We took off at 9:30 am and arrived at 12:30 in the afternoon. The path of the entrance to the village was covered by weeds and we could barely see the road. The village seemed like it had been abandoned long ago.

Hearing the sound of car horns, old Xu ran and helped us open the car door. The first thing that caught our eyes was a cluster of bright yellow corn hanging under the eaves. These yellow corns brought a glimmer of vitality to the village.

The Luquan village is home to eight residents, but the day we went, only five were home. Please follow the photos below, and get to know these villagers!

Today, we visited four patients: Laoxu, Xiaosuo's grandparents, and Laoli.
This is Laoxu, an honest and friendly man who has lived in the village for over 40 years. His left knee and two feet have ulcers in variable degrees due to the large amount of farm work he is accustomed to. His left knee shows deterioration more than before because he is constantly squatting during his work.

Teacher Liang and Xiaoli keeps a record on Laoxu's fester. The ointment they use is very effective, and they decide to send the great news to volunteers in America.

Teacher Liang is very glad to see that Laoxu's right leg has recovered, and she checks his feet to see whether they have also been getting better.

On 5th November, we arrived at Yangjuangou. The beautiful scenery unfolded before us.

We were all delighted by the fully blossomed flowers.

Look, the two friendly seniors are waiting for us!

Teacher Liang told us she always found that some people chose to leave the village quietly.
