We are bringing clean and safe toilets to the children studying in Cambodia's Floating Schools. $20K Fundraising Goal MetWith public support, the World Toilet Organization had successfully raised around US$12,000. To help them achieve their target of US$20,000, Transparent Fish Fund donated the rest so that they could have sufficient funds to install toilets and run sanitation and hygiene programs in 4 schools in floating communities on the Tonle Sap Lake in Cambodia and Bangladesh.
Their partner, Wetlands Work! has identified 4 schools within the Koh Chiveang commune, Ek Phnom district, Battambang Province for the installation of the HandyPod system in each of the floating schools. All the schools have very different challenging issues due to on-land and floating buildings. Wetland Works will select schools that remain floating all year round. The Problem: Insufficient Healthcare in BurmaWhat do you do if you're sick in Burma? Due to government misrule and ethnic conflict, qualified health professionals have left the country. There is a shortage of trained physicians, nurses, midwives, and community health workers. Hospital facilities are run down, have unreliable electricity, and lack adequate medicine and equipment.
Also, people living in armed conflict and remote areas have no reasonable access to health care within a few days’ walk. Many rural and urban areas lack clean water and proper sanitation. Patients must pay for medicine, food, blankets, and bribes to medical personnel. A new 2016 government policy has removed all government funding for basic congenital heart surgery in Gansu. Government policies changes every year when the leaders change every March. This leaves us as the primary sponsor for poor families needing financial aid for CHD surgery. Last year, our average was to sponsor about two to four children a month because the government covered simple cases. This year, we already have 14 children currently in the hospital. We're back to the number of children we usually have in the past years.
Little Red Scarf is in Lanzhou, Gansu and Yunnan province and provides financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, they provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle. Dear Mr. PC, I am Li Fangdi’s daughter, Jin Nana. My mother has been in poor health. She was diagnosed heart disease in 2013. She was too weak to stand at that time. The county hospital suggested we refer her to a bigger hospital in the city. I was at school and my father was in poor health, too. The costs in hospital relied on my uncle and relatives. My mom is lucky. She received the operation with the support of LRS. Now she became better and could do some fieldwork as dig potatoes, move corns or cook. I went to an electronic manufactory in Tianjin last year. My parents are in poor health, so I sent home about 2000RMB per month. I always cautious about money. My father has stomach problem. My brother is in secondary school and he can do nothing to help the family. All work of the family has to rely on my parents. I really want to thank Mr. PC, who donated money for my parents for medicines. My parents are illiterates. They want to say thank you, but they did not know how to express. On behalf of my parents, I would like to thank Mr. PC. Thank you so much. This is the thank-you letter sent by Fangdi’s daughter. Ping Ping is 26 and a mother of 2 children. She was born with her right eye blind, and she has been suffering from congenital heart disease. In January 2016 she underwent heart surgery. However, during the recovery period her body went into distress. Fortunately she was successfully resuscitated. Her rural family is unable to pay the high medical bills for the surgery. Will you join us to help them with this financial burden?

Dr. and Mrs. Chang's donation of $10,500 is fully funding a new bridge for a small village in Vietnam. The village is in the Kien Giang province, Huyen Tan Hiep B district. Follow the progress as the new bridge is being built. The Old BridgeThe old bridge was built in 1998, about 17 years ago. It is a high traffic bridge that many students and village people travel across each day. Most of the students in the village use this bridge to get to school, and villagers use this bridge to get to the market. The old bridge is deteriorating and needs to be replaced. There are a few problems with it. It is very narrow and can only fit one person at a time. It is also very steep at the end and has a sharp 90 degree turn.
Transparent Fish Fund granted $50,000 to One Heart World-Wide to fund the implementation of their Network of Safety Model in the district of Bhojpur for Phase 1 from November 2015-December 2016.

January 29 was a special day for granny Xie. She has been lying for illness for years. She could not remember her 83 birthday. To arrange a memorable birthday party for her, the social workers contacted her 4 children, friends, nurses and doctor. They were invited to celebrate the birthday for granny Xie. Birthday song was performed in her room. It was a special birthday party which had been done smoothly. We got together in granny Xie’s room and sang birthday song in the warm candle lights. When cutting the cake, granny Xie said, “I have had before.” With permission of the doctor, granny Xie ate a little piece. Then people performed some old songs for her. She looked good and said, “I know the song….I am happy”. She kept saying some short sentences to express her happiness. We were moved by the moment. She smiled which gave us positive energy. With singers, we sang old songs for granny Xie. Love, joy and tears would becomeeternal and become our best memories. Meanwhile, we are trying what we can to keep company. We wish her good health, peaceful and happy. Original article written by Ling Feng, translated by Maggie Li, edited by Yanyan Zhang |
