TFish representative John Kieu visited the Kampong Cham Children's Home in Cambodia on June 4, 2016. He met the orphans in the current home and also saw the new dorms being constructed that we are helping to build. Traveling Dirt RoadsOn Saturday, June 4, 2016 Pastor Sinai and his associate led our team of 10 to the children's home in Kampong Cham. We took Pastor Sinai's car and our van to get there. The home is about 80 kilometers from our headquarters, and the journey took about 90 minutes. We arrived at the destination at approximately 11 AM. The home is located in the rural areas of Kampong Cham province, outside of the city center. Once off the main highway, we had to take a dirt road to the site.
Little Shixiang, who is 1 ½ years old, was unconscious when he entered the hospital on March 17, 2016. He suffers from congenital heart disease and from edema, a condition characterized by an excess of watery fluid collecting in the cavities or tissues of the body. His little feet were swollen like a loaf of bread. His family noticed that his condition was worsening and decided to borrow money to take the child to the hospital. He was admitted to the hospital as a result of 4th degree heart failure, fluid surrounding the heart, and general swelling.
Whenever we visited Shixiang in the hospital, he was always being held by his mother because he was always crying or moaning. The best way to soothe him was to breastfeed him, but even then his groans did not stop. The Taiwanese church that we support is bearing fruit not just in their prison ministry, but also in their outreach to the local Vietnamese community. On Sunday, June 12, 2016, this church baptized a 95-year-old lady. It all started when the 95-year-old's Vietnamese caretaker became a Christian at the church a few years ago. At first, the caretaker's boss (the elderly lady's children) treated her very strictly and didn't allow her to have Sundays off. She cried out to God, as she desired to go to church on Sunday. The church also prayed fervently for her and this situation.

Little Red Scarf is in Lanzhou, Gansu and Yunnan provinces and provides financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, they provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle. I saw a young father carrying a child in his arms, pacing worriedly in the hospital. Anxiety and fatigue were evident on his face. Zhiyan's family of four lives in a small mountainous village in Kangle County. Although they are not rich, they should have been able to live simply but happily. Unfortunately, life for little Zhiyan is not so happy.
The family owns just 10 mu (about 1.5 acres) of mountainous land, on which they can only plant some soybeans, wheat, and potatoes. The annual harvest is barely enough to feed and clothe the family. The family’s only property consists of 3 one-story houses made from mud bricks.
Traveling Conditions: It took about 2.5 hours to get from Lanzhou to Da Shu Xiang. The first hour was spent traveling on the highway; then the next 1.5 hours was spent traveling on the county road; the remaining hour was spent on the winding road in the mountains.
When the new semester began in March 2016, Yufeng was ready to go back to school. Through text messages, he shared with us his ideas and plans for the new year.
Yapeng is in 2nd grade. He was born with his right hand disabled and can only use his left hand. Yapeng underwent heart surgery with the support of LRS in 2012. He has not been very well since the operation and has had to keep taking medicine. The doctor suggested we keep following up with him.
Yapeng's family has 8 people in it, and his father was born deaf, so he can only do temp work nearby. Yapeng’s grandparents are over 80. When we visited the family in 2014, his grandfather could take care of himself. Now he has to lay in bed due to a stroke. We enrolled Yapeng’s family into the Adopt a Family program in 2015. May & Kai Chao and Henry & Lisa donated money for Yapeng's hospital examination and medicine. |
