Little Red Scarf is in Lanzhou, Gansu, and Yunnan provinces. We provide financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, we provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle. LRS helped Huzi have heart surgery in 2010. After the follow-up visit in 2015, we decided to accept Huzi's family into our Adopt a Family program for poverty relief. Huzi's mother passed away years ago. His father was physically unfit for migrant labor work, and could only take care of his own farm. Unfortunately, the yield of their small piece of land was very poor. In 2015, Huzi was to finish his high school education in the city. He rented a tiny room, cooked for himself, and lived without heat under the meager budget. His part-time job helped a bit, and sometimes, he received financial aid from his big sister, who's a migrant labor worker. Huzi's home was in a distant countryside. Their house was a deteriorated adobe building with mud walls and a clay roof. It leaked everywhere from rain and wind. We were worried. The condition was so bad that whenever it rained, we would call his father to check if the house was still standing. LRS evaluated the situation, and launched a fundraising effort to help Huzi's family. The objectives were to encourage his education and to rebuild their decaying house. The needs were met by Grandma Chu's Love Fund and Henry & Lisa, who donated $1600 USD and $400 USD respectively. The sum exchanged to 12,500 RMB. Immediately, we released 500 RMB as an urgent aid on March 16, 2015. It was for the family to purchase fertilizer and landscaping fabric sheets for the sowing season. In the following eleven months, we wired monthly 300 RMB to Huzi for his schooling expenses. When Huzi completed high school in the early summer of 2016, we released the balance of 8,700 RMB to rebuild their house. The new building was completed with concrete floor, board walls, and a tile roof. The demolition and concrete foundation were done by the family and volunteers from the village. A thank you letter from Huzi to LRS had more details of the project. Meanwhile, we received good news that Huzi was admitted to the Medical School of Hexi University. We in the LRS Lanzhou office are very happy for the outcome. And more importantly, we are so grateful that the donors, Grandma Chu's Love Fund and Henry & Lisa, stepped forward at the most critical time, giving life to this initiative. According to their motto - “Love, truth, and service to community” - Xingyang Volunteer Federation works to enhance people’s sense of social responsibility through providing them various volunteer opportunities. The office is in Xingyang, Henan province

Longwan Caring Home is a big family consisting of orphans, single parents, and abandoned children. The normal expense of the Home is sustained by plantation, breeding, and small business. October 7th, on the last day of the national holiday, sixth grade Mengzhi Yuan collapsed on the playground, and after, woke up with a bump on the head. We let him go home for a few days with medicine. On October 14, Mengzhi Yuan’s cousin, when he was playing with students, hit his head and when he later regained consciousness, there was cut on the forehead. The next day, with the two brothers, we went with them to seek medical treatment in hospital.
Funding is very important for our hospital, the director Wei, decided that MengZhi and his cousin had to be hospitalized. During the hospital, they had to do appropriate tests, such as the electrocardiogram, B-ultrasound, color Doppler ultrasound, and blood tests, including CT. Test results showed irregular heartbeat and bradycardia, as well as low thyroid. In order to further diagnose, the hospital suggested that we go to a bigger hospital for further examination, mainly for the thyroid test and dynamic electrocardiogram. Doctors first confirmed that their two thyroid indicators, although low, was not enough to diagnose the sickness. Then the two of them took a 24-hour dynamic electrocardiograph with a radio. The results came out, the data show that the heart rate is not Qi and bradycardia, but other tests, including color Doppler ultrasound, CT and other data show that there was no further problems; the doctor said that with their growth and development to 18 years old, it should get better. This makes us all feel at ease. Of course, we still have to always pay attention to the problem and makes sure that they gets proper rest and nutrition; he cannot undergo strenuous exercise and play. Jia Peng and Mian Mei are brother and sister. Their parents have passed away. They made living by their grandparents’ vegetable stall. Life was difficult. In autumn semester of 2014, their grandparents brought Mia Peng and Mian Mei to Longwan Caring Home which decided to admit them unconditional.Children should have bright smiles, but happiness has been deprived. Jia Peng is naughty and active. He always kept moving, but he is shy during group activity and standing aside. He likes drawing and he is good at it. Mian Mei is chubby. She like smiling. She likes pretty things. She would pick some dresses and skirts for herself and held them like treasures. When she was wearing the clothes, she would run on the playground cheerfully. She would praise teachers’ dressing, “your clothes are beautiful!” Wish Jia Peng and Mian Mei grow up healthfully.
