On January 30, 2013, the Ark Firefly Service Group convened at the Youqi Primary School in Yalong Township, Dahua County of Guangxi Province. The Service Group is a simple and ordinary group of students who are receiving aids themselves. Founded on the principles of giving back to society and improving the community, the Service Group works to meet the needs in and around their community. This week, the team was comprised of local senior high school students and backed up by the junior students under the guidance of their teachers. Determined to serve their community, the group set out to assist their neighbors and to distribute goods and materials to families in need. In July of 2012, volunteers from the Ark Welfare Mutual Help Center assisted the One Foundation help children affected by the mudslide in Sanbao Village, Tian’e County. They discovered that the local economy was not doing well, the National Nutrition Improvement Plan had not been implemented, and the students did not eat breakfast. After communicating with the Wild Lily Welfare Federation, both parties agreed to implement the One Egg Program in seven schools of Tian’e County from September 2012. The project provided one egg to each child every day for nutritional supplement. It was implemented by Ark Welfare and the local volunteers. On September 19, 2012, the One Egg Program was initiated in Tian’e county. From December 2012 to January 2013, 23944 eggs and 19258 RMB were distributed to the students. Random inspections done in December and January showed that the program was progressing smoothly. This organization encourages people to get involved in public service and respond to the needs of their communities. Nestled among the numerous mountains in Yalong county, Guangxi lies a primary school named Shengli Wanquan School. 95% of its students are of Yao nationality, and their daily necessities are carried by mules or horses due to cliffy mountain roads. Children of this county are innocent and adorable, but with the infertile lands, they are unable to receive enough proper food at their age. After the "two exempt and one subsidy" policy was implemented in 2007 and provided subsidies on nutria-meals for rural compulsory students, these students finally enjoyed better meals. However, we couldn’t help but ask the question: is it really enough for children of those ages? This is why we are initiating the “One Egg, One Love” program. We hope an egg for lunch can extend our affection to them, and we hope they can enjoy equal rights under the same sunshine as other urban children. An egg is small, but it will give these children an infinite amount of love and encouragement.
