With the support of TFish, the project aims to support with micro loans to housewives from a poverty-stricken village in Huining county, Gansu province. It will promote income and provide development opportunities to women in the villages Finally the funds were available on April 27---65420.02 RMB exchanged from 10537 dollars. The funds would be provided to women from 20 households in Lucha village as micro loans for developing traditional livestock. According to the current situation, 2000RMB were loaned to each household to develop sheep raising. With the loan, each household can buy 3 female sheep. Each sheep would give birth to 2 lambs twice in 12 months if they feed the sheep properly. Each lamb can be sold for about 500RMB 3 months after being born. It will be a great number.
Let’s achieve this step by step. We have been thinking to develop some income generation project with more technology. When facing the actual situations, we found women prefer to do sheep raising during needs assessment. Not long after, some more sheep will appear on the green mountains while women will busy for their field work. In the evening, they will be collecting the sheep from grass land and take them back. Then they will busy to prepare dinner for the family. When it becomes dark, they will be chatting with their children. What a nice scene! The children now live with Chen and his wife. His younger son went to the city to work. Their family has planted about 30 mu (5 acres) of fields. They work very hard, and the income comes from their crops. We initiated helping him and sold about 300 kilograms of millet for him.
5) Cui Xiaoxia is one of 5 Han families in Lucha village. With her micro loan, she bought a cow for 5,800 RMB ($870 USD). The cow is used to plow fields and for breeding. A pilot project in partnership with Qinyuan in Gansu Executive SummaryQinyuan Microloans is a pilot project co-sponsored by Transparent Fish Fund and Qinyuan Rural Development in Gansu. The project was launched on May 12, 2015, when twenty families were selected for loans of 2000 yuan (about $320 USD) each. Their investments—all in livestock of their own choice—have shown healthy progress and been documented. Qinyuan, the organization managing the local affairs, demonstrated excellent grassroots services, although several issues were noticed and required further attention. The village’s inhabitants, environment, and cultural background were described for future reference. Qinyuan’s other projects in the area were also explored for informational purposes. A follow up trip has been tentatively set for August this year after Ramadan.

Everywhere showed dried and deserted in winter in Huining county. Only in spring, green comes out of earth day by day, bringing wonderful lives. In the early of November, 2014, we visited villagers for micro loans in Lucha village with 2 staff from Little Red Scarf. We surveyed on basic situations as family economic income, role of female, development hopes and possible ways to increase income, etc. We did brief exchange with women who just came back from fields. As a traditional village, women were confined to the family chores and men work outside of the village. Wife and husband take different responsibilities at home. Cook always one of jobs that a woman has to take in a family, so it is impossible to decide who will cook or wash dishes by throwing a coin. It is a fixed situation in a village family for male and female. For 24 hours a day, men and women are busy for their own jobs. Some who are left in the villages do plantations or cultivation to generate income. Female takes more chores. Before meals, men can take a rest while women are busy in the kitchens. We hope our visit can help to bring some developments to the women in the village, providing learning opportunities or alternative skills to generate income to them. It’s March and spring, we got support for our micro loans from TFish. In the following days, we hope to provide more helps to more mothers.
