My Growth in Summer CampThroughout the course of this summer camp, I got a lot of exercise and enhanced my living skills. I hope I can attend again next year! This summer I attended Little Red Scarf's summer camp.
On August 8th, Mom dropped me, my older sister, and my younger brother off at the Little Red Scarf office. We soon boarded the bus and arrived at Yuzhong City. We were staying at the Deng family courtyard, and this marked the start of my week at summer camp. A Summer Camp More Impressive Than the SunThe sun was scorching in August, but the LRS summer camp officially began. The interesting and happy experiences we had at camp were even more impressive than the sun. The camp participants came from different places with different accents. They seemed shy at first, but they became increasingly open and active, making friends with each other. The process was amazing. Everyone was changed and challenged. Their strengths and creativity were displayed. They fully participated in the activities and demonstrated their talents and abilities.
After a few days of the camp, I became brighter and more confident, learning to be strong and brave during difficulties. In this big family, I understood how to love others. My Beautiful Time in Summer CampAugust is a nice month. During this important month, I was invited to participate in a summer camp. At first everything seemed unfamiliar to me. But after a few days, I made some friends. It was a big family, and we got along well. People were honest and sincere in this big family, and I was one of them.
From Camper to VolunteerThis August I have once again come to the LRS summer camp. I still remember the last time I participated in the summer camp six years ago. That was the year Little Red Scarf had just helped me through heart surgery. As a camper, I attended the events. However, this time is different from last time. Now I am participating as a volunteer.
There were a lot more campers this year than when I was last here. As a volunteer, I also learned a lot. Every day at the end of the camp day, I would lie in bed and recall the day. I wondered whether I was able to communicate well with them and if there were things I could improve.
As Time Goes ByTime is fair. No matter where you are and what happens, it goes as it is. Each person may leave regrets or memories.
Time brings many things. We cherish what has been left. It is not easy to live in the world, for sometimes we cannot distinguish between good or bad, right or wrong. Good luck comes from thankfulness. I have experienced the tortures of illness, just like the campers have. I knew that each child being supported by LRS did not have an easy life. We all cherish the support. In early August 2016, I received a special invitation from the Little Red Scarf teachers to join them for the summer camp. I was anxious at first, since I would be a volunteer this time. I needed to share something with the participants. Of course, I tried my best to prepare.
I learned that as long as we have an imagination and work together, even hard things will be successful. Good times always fly by. The seven-day summer camp has gone in the blink of an eye. Although I am a little tired, I had a very happy and fulfilling time.
Last Day of CampToday was the last day of the camp. Our campers woke up with varying degrees of pain in their thighs and calves as a result of the mountain climbing. Although it was already the last day, we still had plenty of fun activities planned, and the kids were still very excited. Movie TimeOur campers enjoyed watching a movie together. The teachers picked The Croods because the campers are all different ages, and we wanted all of them to enjoy the movie. We got good feedback, based on their laughter during the movie! Creativity and ImaginationAfter breakfast, volunteers Xiao Xiao and Lina split the campers into two groups. Xiao Xiao did an English workshop with the group of younger kids. Lina did an arts and crafts session with the older group. They worked with construction paper and used their imagination to make one big piece of art. The campers’ creativity and imagination have improved a lot these past two days, not to mention their ability to cooperate. Since the first day they arrived, we’ve been telling them that although they’re from different areas and they may not know each other well, we’re all one family because we’re here together. We’re a team! Through our activities, everybody has gotten to know each other. We’ve gotten to learn from each other to make one big work of love, like our arts and crafts.
Climbing Xinglong MountainToday is day 5 of the summer camp, which the kids have been looking forward to. We will climb Xinglong Mountain, a protected natural forest reserve in the Lanzhou area. It’s a nice summer resort, and the climate is moist. After breakfast, most of our group hit the road. It took 10-20 minutes to get from the campground to the bottom of Xinglong Mountain by bus. The campground owner volunteered to drive the younger kids in his car to Xinglong Mountain. All our kids are from villages and are very good at climbing mountains. It didn’t take them very long to charge way up ahead of us.
