In early spring, the new semester began at the the Xi’an Medical College. Volunteers began preparing for a voluntary activity to help the elderly. In the morning, we gathered for the activity. Looking back on the activity, I remember everyone's smiling faces before we reached our destination.

This was the first time we did this activity for the elderly so we were a bit nervous. When we arrived at Tangdu garden, the team captain was waiting for us. The team captain gave us a brief introduction and told us what we needed to pay attention to. We then set out to converse with the aged. We were astonished to find all their living quarters were old and shabby. Something that looked like snow was falling down from the higher floors.  We saw some old people were busy untangling strings. They greeted us happily and invited us to go into their rooms. The rooms were narrow and dim, and furniture inside the rooms was quite simple and old. The volunteers began chatting with them, listening to their stories from the past. The volunteers really began to understand their hard lives. We felt that we should be more respectful to our parents and that we really need to value our own lives. We then cooked tomato and egg noodles for the old people. Seeing their happy smiles, we were consoled.

After lunch, the old people talked about domestic trivialities. During the process, there was happy laughter and cheerful voices, a happy scene. The volunteers washed plates after the lunch. The team captain came back from his visit in another room and gave us a big smile, which encouraged us lot. We cut the old people's nails and cleaned their rooms. Upon leaving, the team captain promised to come again with other volunteers. The old people were very happy.

On October 26, 2013, volunteers set out to help students with economic difficulties. These volunteers are from Dandelion, an organization that assists impoverished students. With the support of people from all sectors, Dandelion is printed with the spirit of lasting selfless service.

We always define our connection to education as "on the road." Only these three words can symbolize the enthusiasm of our volunteers to overcome all kinds of difficulties to help poor students to continue their education. The volunteers are all committed to trying to change people's lives through education.  

When we were visiting we were proud to see a child in Grade One focusing on his students without distraction. I am thankful to be on this road and I hope to help children everywhere maintain their innocence. As Chen Kun said during “Walking Action”, “hopeful people gain more spiritual power via walking, because they walk out of love. The positive power from their activities can be passed on to more people.” He seeks inner peace through his feet.  We are walking on the same road of hope and we hope to meet more companions along the way.

On October 26, 2013, a group of people were walking on the road to Gepai township. They visited 13 children and supported 9 of them on the spot. The activity went smoothly. We want to thank these people for their donations.

There’s a special education center in a village of Gaoling County Xi’an, called the Hand in Hand Special Educational Center. It is a non-profit education organization for children with autism in Gaoling area.
          
At 9:00, July 14, 2013, when all the volunteers came, we took an exciting ride to Gaoling. After over an hour, the volunteers got off the bus and walked for a long time. We finally saw the children who were having class. The kids shouted to us, “Hello, uncles and aunts!" 

It was hot and the teacher had to put a basin of water in the classroom. There was only one fan to help keep the temperature cool. The teachers are currently trying to raise money for an air conditioner for the girl's dormitory to help them get through the hot summer. 
        
Because of the shortage of money, the protective railings haven’t been installed and the walls have not been painted upstairs. These repairs will cost 70,000 RMB (about 12,000 dollars).

We hope that more and more people will come and help these kids.

My name is Li Qing and I am 11 years old. I live in Lantian County. I am in grade 5 and I like study and do well at school. There are 5 people in my family, my grandmother, father, mother, younger sister and me.

We have 2 acres of mountainous field and our life expenses rely on it. My mum is in poor condition and she cannot take care of us, though I know she loves us very much. My sister is in grade 1 and she can take care of herself. After school, together with my dad, we do some fieldwork and housework. 

My home is far away from the school, so we have to get up quite early and walk about 1.5 hours to get to school. My sister and I have to pay about 1200 yuan for food at school. Sometimes, I take care of my sister by taking her schoolbag for her or carrying her on my back. I love my dad. He would ride a motor bike to pick up my sister and me if he finished his field work earlier. My mum would meet us at the entrance of the village when she heard the sound of motorbike. It was the happiest time in my life. Some students in our class live even further away.

This year, my sister and I received support from some loving people. They will help me until I graduate from high school. I am so happy and my dad does not have to work so hard. My sister and I will study hard and thank those loving people.

In May of 2013, we held 27 total activities. One activity, donating clothes and books, had a very positive influence on the locals. Through this activity, we were able to promote awareness of public welfare among the people in these local communities. 

On May 4, 2013, we held another donation of clothes and books in 21 communities. By May 31, we had recieved great support from the local residents. We hope that a sense of volunteerism in the community was developed.

On May 7, 2013, the Shan029 Public Service Center held an activity called the “love relay” with Shanxi TV. The purpose of the activity was to call more citizens to participate in public welfare by cleaning the rooms of disabled people.

On May 8, 2013, the video department of the Shan029 Public Service Center recorded the smiles of many people, hoping to relay the warmness of these smiles to even more people.

 On May 12, 2013, an education aid team visited Yangzhuang Township of Chang’an County. They visited 7 children and selected 2 to support as clients. They also visited an elderly person with no family.

On May 18, 2013, charity jogging was held. Volunteers from the 029 Public Service Center participated in the activity and delivered performances. 

At 9:00 on May 18, we visited 12 students from poor families. We spent 9 hours and covered over 900 kilometers. 2 students received support on-site.  

On May 25, the education aid team of Shan029 Public Service Center visited the Jiujianfang township. 14 of us in 4 vehicles covered over 100 kilometers and visited 9 students.

At 8:02 on April 20, 2013, a 7-magnitude earthquake hit Ya’an of Sichuan Province. 

On April 24, 2013, Shanxi 029 Public Welfare Service Center set off to the stricken areas with relief materials.  

On April 26, 2013, we met a few families in Tianquan County. They did not have any tents for 7 days, because they were not local or from villages. Their 2 sons went to stricken areas, and they had to stay with their grandson and daughter-in-law.

Thanks very much for Mr Chao and Ms.Chao, Director Nguyen and staff from TFish. We received 2420 dollars from TFish today. In the first quarter of 2013, Xi’an Alliance completed one-on-one sponsorship for 101 children, supported 2 children with critical illness. We raise over 160,000 RMB with 180 beneficiaries (old and children) from rural and urban communities, 30,000 RMB goods and 30000 person-times of volunteers. Over 60 Medias as CCTV, Gansu TV, Xi’an TV, etc. reported or reprinted our activities and stories. 

Thanks to the support from TFish, we can achieve these. Because there were no worries, we could do a lot. Thanks again for Mr Zhao and his wife, Director Ruan and all teachers. We can do better and help more people in the second quarter. We will motivate more people to participate in voluntary activities, cooperate with more public welfare organizations and bring the spirit of voluntarism and TFish to broader and wider.

On March 21, 2013, a team consisting of volunteers and health workers visited the empty-nesters, elderly people without families.

Under the guidance of the village chief, we stepped into the first home. Pointing to a small hut, the village chief told the health worker, “There lives a patient”. Doctor and nurses went to the hut and diagnosed the old man. The chief introduced the family: three single, old men who make livings by farming. The 65-year-old patient is the eldest, and he has been suffering from paralysis for 10 years. He had a son who worked on a construction site in Ningxia but tragically died of a construction accident. The third brother is mentally retarded. The second brother is 62 years old but quite optimistic. He cares for the two brothers and has kept the family together for many years.
