Yunmeng County Volunteers Federation: Harvest Sugarcanes

12/15/2013

Picture
Yunmeng County Volunteers Federation of Hube Province was set up on September 10, 2011, which aims to work with poverty alleviation, education support and community building. It has 150 members.

Wang, is a 64-year-old man worried about his sugarcane harvest. He has to take care of his son who has been in the hospital. At this difficult time, Yunmeng Volunteers Federation motivated loving people to help. We asked people to spend their Saturday helping Wang harvest his sugarcanes.

Uncle Wang lives in Dafeng village. There are 4 people in the family: his wife, a son and a daughter.  Uncle Wang’s son is 38 and suffers from serious schizophrenia. According to Wang, his son got the illness at 13. He had taken his son to seek treatment, but nothing could cure him. His illness could not be treated in any way because they did not have the funds.

The sugarcanes have to be harvested these days. Otherwise, the frost will destroy them. When people heard the situation, they offered their ideas. The volunteers and loving people decided to harvest sugarcane for Uncle Wang on Saturday. They also promised to buy some sugarcane from Wang later on.

Yunmeng Volunteers Association: Love during Dragon Boat Festival

6/28/2013

Yunmeng Volunteers Association, Huberi Province works with poor students, which aims to verify the students’ situation and find sponsors to help them with living expenses, psychological counseling, etc.

Before the Dragon Boat Festival, we visited Chen Biyu, a poor student in the Daodian township. Wu Fang bought snacks for her. Shu Jiamei bought pork ribs for her to help her grow. When we saw her, Wu gave her 200RMB, urging her to study hard and call us if she faces any difficulties. We showed our respect to Wu. We told her to take action hand-in-hand with us.

Shuai Zhenyu, one of our volunteers, was also concerned about the poor students. She decided to visit the students despite the hot weather in the afternoon. She gathered other volunteers up and visited two poor students in Daodian town. They brought the children fruit and stationary. They also asked detailed questions about their studies and their lives. It is volunteers like this that we respect so much and also learn from.

Yunmeng Volunteers Association, Hubei Province: Flying Swallow

6/23/2013

Yunmeng Volunteers Association is in Hubei Province and works with poor students, which aims to verify the students’ situation and find sponsors to help them with living expenses, psychological counseling, etc.

The day that the Volunteers Associated planned to visit Ju Yan, it was raining and cold. It took time to walk to the village where Ju Yan lives. We met her at the entrance of the village. She was very thin, but she gave us warm greetings.

Her grandparents died early and her mother left the family. Her father works in the city and can only come home once a year.

Ju Yan has to take care of herself and the empty house. She had to cook, wash and go to school by herself. Everything has to be done by her. She is 8, but she has become much more mature than her contemporaries.

The only electrical equipment in the house are an electric cooker and a 10-inch TV, which was damaged long ago. She hopes to one day have a new TV that she can see people on.
