Grounded on core values of respect, love, and service to the elderly, the Xin Yue Senior Citizen Service Center of Chongqing, China, promotes social work services for senior citizens and builds harmonious living environment for them.
During the summer and winter holidays, many children visit the nursing home with their greetings. Even though they may only stay for an hour, they try their best to do something nice for the elderly residents.
Giving up one hour of internet surfing to talk with the elderly; giving up one hour of playing outside with their classmates to prepare an activity for the elderly people. One hour is small for a child, but it is precious for an old man. Under the instruction of Xinyue, 20 volunteers from 3 middle schools planned an activity to stay with the elderly people for one hour. They are young, but their ability to prepare and organize is amazing. At 9:30 on July 29, the activity started. At the beginning, the performances of the small volunteers were reserved, but with the encouragement of the elderly people, they became confident with their performances. The elderly people interacted actively with the volunteers despite their age gap. The activity was extended to 1.5 hours.
We hope that this hour brought more smiles to the senior citizens, and we also hope the volunteers will learn something from this activity. The children are learning how to pass their love on. We know this will create shock waves.
