Light of Love: The Fourth Chun Hui Youth Public Welfare Forum

4/28/2012

From April 20 to 22 in 2012 in Wuxi of Jiangsu Province, the Chun Hui Youth Public Welfare Development Center held the Fourth Chun Hui Youth Public Welfare Forum, sponsored by Lingshan Charities Aid Foundation. Nearly 200 public welfare foundations throughout China took part in the forum. The theme of the forum was “To Be a Thinking Actor”. The forum’s purpose is to rally around some of the most valuable voices for the youth growth and the development of public service.

In the evening of April 20, Dai Xianwei, the Secretary-General of Light of Love Public Welfare Development Center, Du Yaming, the Executive Chairman of Nanjing Ten Fingers Youth Public welfare union and Luo Chang, the Chairman of Love Heart Society of Nanjing Aeronautics, and Astronautics University participated in the forum. These honored guests made special speeches in the evening. There was a speech themed “To Be a Thinking Actor” from Liang Xiaoyan, Secretary-General of Beijing City Western Sunshine Villages Development Foundation; and another speech themed “to be a person flying a kite” from Lu Zhiwen, director-general of Jiangsu Changming Foundation (New Education Foundation). The Lu Zhiwen’s speech made a lasting impression on us. In the speech, he mentioned that happiness is the foundation of success, but success is not the groundwork of happiness.

In the morning of April 21, there was a discussion on possibilities in the near future-The Driving Force of Youth Public Welfare Development in the form of “World Coffee”. The key terms of the discussion included “responsibility, interest, ability, pursuit” and so on. And then eight represents shared the developing process of their foundation.

There was a theme summit in which several successful public figures shared their topics. For instance, Gu Yuan, the founder of Aha society Innovation Center, led a discussion that explores “when we talk about social entrepreneurship, what we are really talking about”; Li YingQiang, Secretary-General of liren country library shared his ideas that “Knowledge and action are one, benefit other people as well as oneself”; Dou RuiGang, the Secretary-General of Tencent Charity Foundation, talked about “new media, new public welfare”; Li Qi, the manager of the corporate social responsibility department of Google Information Technology (China) Co., Ltd.,gave a talk titled “seed for future.” The stories of predecessors plant the seed for new public welfare enterprises. That evening, there was also participated in a self-help salon. The most popular topic was volunteer-teaching in the country and what it means to be a volunteer teacher.

On the morning of April 22, we began a series of ”Students’ Welfare Project Sharing.” The mission of helping children to realize their dreams and learning of Light of the Love Public Welfare Development Center became one of the student projects discussed. Dai Xianwei, the Secretary General of Light of Love Public Welfare Development Center, showed how the project’s mission to “help realize dreams and study” is implemented. The project received advice from Gu Yuan, Li Yingqiang, Shen Min and Wang Sheng and so on. They suggested the team from China Medicine University develop special public welfare programs to benefit more public. Then the brainstorm session themed “Where the Youth Public Welfare Should Go in the Trends of Entrepreneurship” brought the audience and honored guests into a heated and productive discussion.

The forum lasted until the afternoon of April 22. The forum gave more students opportunities to be involved in public welfare, as they heard some of the most valuable voices in the field. Whether or not public welfare support venture investment; whether or not public welfare foundations grow, we gained the most current and valuable information.

This sounds like a very informative and expressive meeting. I especially liked the quote from Lu Zhiwen’s speech: "Happiness is the foundation of success, but success is not the groundwork of happiness."
