The following is a monthly update from Little Red Scarf, an NGO that helps impoverished children with congenital heart disease obtain medical care. 16 children have recently recovered from their operations (most were discharged in October of 2011), and post-op phone visit is now over. Let's look at these children’s conditions now!

Post operation, HuaHua has never caught a cold and has also gained some weight, sleeps better at night, and has just a bit of constipation. Her dad’s friend’s 5-year-old child also has congenital heart disease. But, because of the family’s economic difficulty, SunHua has never been able to receive treatment. The next two days, we will go to SunHua’s home to try to understand the situation. HuaHua’s dad say he will give the family a detailed introduction.

She’s been discharged for 4 months now and has never caught a cold, and has a significantly improved immune system. Her dad has put Little Red Scarf posters on the village clinic door, and her dad said many people went to see it. When anyone asks, he would carefully explain the process.

LY-105 YuHan: 10/04/2011 discharged

The second mother said that the child's mother and father have both left for work and won’t be home until June. Now YuHan has put on a lot of weight and because he is too young, he can’t take off his pants himself. So, they didn’t send him to Kindergarten.

XiaoJuan’s father went to Xi 'an for work, and her mother is working in XinJiang. Because the school is far from home, XiaoJuan is not going to school and stays at home with her grandma and two younger brothers. She usually helps her grandma take care of her two brothers who go to school by cooking for them. Her appetite has been very good.

His dad said JingBo’s condition has been stable but still has some difficulty breathing. His family wants to wait until April for recheck, and at that time, also wants to do some surgeries for his cleft lip. They want to listen to the doctor's advice and see if the child's condition is bad enough to consider installing a pacemaker.
