LRS Care Profile #12: Da Yong
Give hope to Da Yong, who suffers from a serious blood vessel disease that prevents him from going to school and confines him to a wheelchair.
After Surgery, Still Suffering from Disease
Da Yong was a 20-year-old in 11th grade, but he had to drop out of school recently because of his critical physical condition. Although he underwent surgery, his heart failed afterwards due to PAH, a disease of the vessels that carry blood from the heart to the lungs. The vessels in his lungs are in a constant state of high blood pressure, and this progressive disease will get worse over time. Da Yong has to use a wheelchair and take expensive medicine every day.
Dedicated Father, Expensive Treatment, Little Income
The doctor suggested he have heart transplant surgery, but the family can’t afford such expensive treatment. He has applied for free Ventavis for 9 months, which is a prescription medicine used to treat adults with PAH. The other daily medicine he takes costs about $30 USD a day. He and his father go to Xi’an each month for follow-up, and those monthly travel costs are about $300 USD. The family has to spend about $13,000 USD each year for his medical treatment. His father has to take care of him, so he can’t go out to work, and the family income is reduced even more. The annual income of the family is about $1,600 USD. One of his sisters will go on to higher education, so the burden of the family will become even heavier.
Will you be a blessing to Da Yong so he can get the treatment he desperately needs?
