LRS Care: Return Visits

Little Red Scarf provides financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, they provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle.

There were 12 children discharged from hospital in December, 2011. We conducted a telephone interview with each of the families after a year. How are they doing after the operations and how are their lives? 

283 Yuanxiao Discharge time: 12/16/2011; Telephone review: 01/24/2013; Recent developments: Yuanxiao is 5 years old. His grandfather said he was in good health and had no colds. He ate more and was gaining more weight.

284 Yihu Discharge time: 12/05/2011; Telephone review: 01/24/2013; Recent developments: Yihu is 1 year and 5 months old. He became better after the operation, but he developed a bit more slowly than his peers. The only word he could say is “Mum”.

285 Juntao Discharge time: 12/06/2011; Telephone review: 01/21/2013; Recent developments: Juntao is 1 year and 5 months old. He is in good health and can walk. He can speak short sentences. He was found to have a funnel chest 3 months after the operation. His parents consulted the doctor who suggested a medical examination in the future.  

288 Xiaohui Discharge time: 12/29/2011; Telephone review: 01/24/2013; Recent developments: Xiaohui is in Grade 9. She did well at school and got good scores in her final examination. Her father was happy. 

289 Liyan Discharge time: 12/09/2011; Telephone review: 01/30/2013; Recent developments: Liyan is 2 years old. Her parents took her to Xinjiang. She is cute and is recovering well. 

290 Baoping Discharge time: 12/19/2011; Telephone review: 02/01/2013; Recent developments: Baoping is in Grade 1 and is doing much better than before, but he can't attend PE class. Baoping talked to us on the phone. He sounded well and I was happy to hear his voice.     

291Qinqin Discharge time: 12/13/2011; Telephone review: 01/04/2013; Recent developments: She is 3 years old and is recovering well after the operation. She seldom catches colds and has not taken any medicine. She grows taller and will attend pre-school after the Chinese New Year. 

291Haixia Discharge time: 12/19/2011; Telephone review: 02/04/2013; Recent developments: Haixia went to Shandong with her friends and she works in a cake workshop. Work is not too much for her and she gained some weights. She is fine and will return home in March and her family are looking forward to seeing her. 

293 Xiaorong Discharge time: 12/15/2011; Telephone review: 01/04/2013; Recent developments: Xiaorong is almost 6 years old and grows much taller. She has good health and will attend primary school. Her family was happy and showed their gratitude for the LRS. 

294 Apeng Discharge time: 12/15/2011; Telephone review: 02/04/2013; Recent developments: Apeng is attended pre-school and did well at school. He became healthier after the operation and develops the same as his contemporaries. He grows taller and very cute.     

296 Xiaochun Discharge time: 12/19/2011; Telephone review: 02/05/2013; Recent developments: Xiaochun is 5 years old. He is in Grade 1 because there is no preschool at the village. He felt pressure in his study. He grows taller and gained weight. He got bronchitis in winters and still in the treatment. His scar is recovering well. 

298 Jiali Discharge time: 12/29/2011; Telephone review: 02/05/2013; Recent developments: Jiali is in grade one and does well at school. She could attend PE class and gained weight. Everything is well with her except the scar looks obvious. 

299 Xiaodong Discharge time: 12/23/2011; Telephone review: 01/24/2013; Recent developments: His father said he was fine and everything of him was fine. 

300 Pengpng Discharge time: 12/27/2011; Telephone review: 02/05/2013; Recent developments: Pengpeng is in Grade 5 and is doing very well at school. He became healthier than before, though he seemed weak compared to other children. He seldom caught cold and the scar healed well. 

301 Yuting Discharge time: 12/26/2011; Telephone review: 02/08/2013; Recent developments: Yuting is in Grade 6 and will attend secondary school. Her father said she became healthier and seldom caught cold. She could attend PE class and did well at school. 

302 Tongtong Discharge time: 12/29/2011; Telephone review: 02/08/2013; Recent developments: Tongtong is in Grade 5 and her mother said she grew taller and gained weight. 

LY-129 Ajing Discharge time: 12/29/2011; Telephone review: 02/08/2013; Recent developments: Ajing became healthier after the operation. Her father said she had not caught cold and she is in Grade 3. She attended activities except sports. She likes singing and dancing. She also gained weight. 

LY-130 Xinyi Discharge time: 12/26/2011; Telephone review: 02/08/2013; Recent developments: Xinyi is 3 years old. She became healthier after the operation. Her father said she was healthier than other children and her scar healed well. She will attend kindergarten after the Chinese New Year. 

LY-131 Aliang Discharge time: 12/02/2011; Telephone review: 02/08/2013; Recent developments: Aliang is fine and attended kindergarten. She likes dancing and singing. Her father said they would take her to Lanzhou for the medical check after the Chinese New Year. 

LY-132 Yongbin Discharge time: 12/01/2011; Telephone review: 02/16/2013; Recent developments: Yongbin is in Grade 5. He lives at school due to the long distance between his home and the school. Her mother rented an apartment near the school in order to better take care of him. He had not caught cold in a year and became healthier than before. He did average at school. 

LY-133 Songcai Discharge time: 12/06/2011; Telephone review: 02/17/2013; Recent developments: Songcai is in Grade 4 and did well at school. He became healthier and seldom caught could or got fever. His scar healed well. 

LY-137 Yuanyuan Discharge time: 12/16/2011; Telephone review: 02/17/2013; Recent developments: Yuanyuan is 2 years old and became healthier and seldom caught cold. He developed a little bit late than his peers. He is late in walking or speaking. He could speak a few words. The problem of pigeon is eased with calcium supplement or tan. 

LY-139 Xiaoya Discharge time: 02/08/2013; Xiaoya is 3 years old and became healthier after the operation. She could not eat much and looks thin. The scar healed well and she developed almost the same as her contemporaries.        

LY-140 Peipei Discharge time: 12/28/2011; Telephone review: 02/08/2013; Recent developments: Peipei is in Grade 5 and did well at school. She ate well and gained weight. Her wound healed well. She did not need to attend PE. She is as fine as a normal child. 

LY-141 Jingying Discharge time: 12/20/2011; Telephone review: 02/17/2013; Recent developments: I called her uncle and he said she was in preschool, because there’s no kindergarten in the village. She caught colds in this winter, but healthier than before the operation. She ate well and the wound healed well.
