LRS Care: Return Visits

Little Red Scarf is in Lanzhou, Gansu province and provides financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, they provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle.

17 patients were discharged from the hospital from February to March of 2013. We called on them one by one after they left:

382 Xiao Guan  Discharge time: 02/08/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/03/2013. Re-examination: 05/13/2013. Recent developments: the child is much better and he can go to school. One month after the operation, his mother passed away.

LY-273 Fang Yan  Discharge time: 02/01/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/03/2013. Re-examination: not yet. Recent developments: she is recovering well without sickness. She went to school. The school is far away from her home, so her mother rents a room near the school. Her mother said the scar is obvious and it may be related to her skin type.
LY-275 Xiao Ming  Discharge time: 02/02/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/03/2013. Re-examination: 05/01/2013. Recent developments: Xiao Ming is in Grade 4. She wanted to participate in the Children's Day activities, but her parents wanted her to have more rest. Now she is healthier and has gained some weight. 

LY-264 Guo Yong Discharge time: 21/02/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/03/2013. Re-examination: early May. Recent developments: Guo Yong is 1 year and 2 months old. He received treatment in 2 hospitals due to a lung infection after the operation. He has been taking medicine and is better, but his family was plunged into heavy debt. His father had to take care of him, so he could not go to work. His family hopes he will recover soon. 

384 Wei Ye Discharge time: 03/04/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/03/2013. Re-examination: 2 months after the operation. Recent developments: Wei Ye is recovering well. He suffered from congenital hip dislocation and accepted another operation after the re-examination. He has been lying in bed for 40 days and could not sit up. It will take 20 days before he can have a re-examination. He should be able to walk after the reduction of the joint. 

386 Xiao Ru Discharge time: 03/11/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/03/2013. Re-examination: not yet. Recent developments: Xiao Ru is 1.5 years and can walk. She has recovered well. Her parents will take her for a re-examination in a few days. 

385 Yan Hai    Discharge time: 03/15/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/08/2013. Re-examination: not yet. Recent developments: Yan Hai received an aortic valve replacement, so he had to take a blood coagulation test 2 weeks after the operation and will have to take anticoagulant drugs for his whole life. His parents will take him for a re-examination at the end of July. Now everything is going smoothly and he will attend Grade 6. 

383 Hong Hong Discharge time: 03/17/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/08/2013. Re-examination: not yet. Recent developments: she went to school 20 days after being discharged. She cannot attend PE at the moment. Her uncle said she recovered well and they will take her for the re-examination during her summer holiday. 
           
387 Yue Meng Discharge time: 03/15/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/08/2013. Re-examination: not yet. Recent developments: she became healthier after the operation even though she caught a cold in the past 3 months. The wound is recovering well. 

LY-279 Bi Yan Discharge time: 03/11/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/08/2013. Re-examination: not yet. Recent developments: her wound and left arm are painful. Her parents took her for the re-examination, but the doctor was busy. The examination was postponed to next Wednesday. Her mother said she eats much less than before.      

LY-276 Rui Jing Discharge time: 03/15/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/08/2013. Re-examination: 06/08/2013. Recent developments: she is getting better and the wound is healing well, but the scar is obvious. She has become healthy and active. Another re-examination will be done in 2 years. 

LY-280 Jiang Hong Discharge time: 03/18/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/08/2013. Re-examination: not yet. Recent developments: his father said he became healthier after the operation. He eats more and the wound is healing well. His parents will take him for the re-examination soon.      

LY-283 Qing Qing Discharge time: 03/20/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/13/2013. Re-examination: not yet. Recent developments: she is getting better and eats more. She is able to run and has begun to speak. She seldom catches cold. The wound is healing well and she will have a re-examination soon. 

LY-281 Ze Yang Discharge time: 03/26/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/08/2013. Re-examination: 1 month after the operation. Recent developments: he is weak and caught cold twice after being discharged. He was hospitalized again in Lanzhou. Now he is out of the hospital. He eats well, but is developing slower than his contemporaries. He is not able to walk at the moment. 

LY-282 Jia Yu Discharge time: 03/26/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/08/2013. Re-examination: not yet. Recent developments: she is much better and hasn’t caught cold in 3 months. She eats well and the wound is healing well. Her mother works in the city and will take her for re-examination in about 10 days. 

MQ-13 Xiao Zhao Discharge time: 03/25/2013. Telephone follow-up: 06/13/2013. Re-examination: not yet. Recent developments: he is recovering well and the weakness he felt in his chest has been eased. He does not feel any pain and he will have a re-examination in a few days.
