I looked forward to the day that I would leave for summer camp, and I made all sorts of preparations.
On August 7, I once again received a call from Teacher Guan. She said that I could attend the summer camp the next day, and I was beyond excited. I couldn't sleep the whole night.
On the morning of August 8th, my dad and I set off at 6:00 in the morning and arrived three hours later.
When we got there, I saw many young children, and also older kids my age. At first, since we didn’t know each other, none of us talked very much.
Some people were very introverted, and others were lively and extroverted. In the course of a few days, we all became familiar with each other and expressed our deepest inner thoughts with both the teachers and other children.
Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely.
At camp, I didn't have the anxiety and low self-esteem I had before. I was able to initiate making friends with others. I wasn’t afraid that they would judge me, and I ended up making lots of friends here.
The teachers took us to places we had never been to before, fed us foods we had never eaten before, and taught us games that we had never played before. Aunt Cindy brought many snacks with her. The teachers also put a lot of effort into creating the games, which were new and exciting and managed to include everybody. The camp broadened my horizons and expanded my connections.
The teachers encouraged us, built up our confidence, and made us feel the warmth of family. My teachers and friends are just like my family, and seeing their laughter made me so happy.
Thank you to all the teachers for your constant company, care, love, and encouragement. It is you who made me realize that one with a not-so-great past can have a brilliant future.
Here I have learned bravery, persistence, collaboration, trust, and communication. I have learned how to help others and take care of others. I have also learned how to persevere through hardship. No matter how difficult the circumstances are, have faith in your own ability. The sun is sure to come out after the wind and rain.
Thank you to all the camp staff, who volunteered their time for our sake during the hottest days of summer. We hope you gained something from the camp, just as you allowed us to discover more about ourselves and realize our dreams. Take care of yourselves, achieve your dreams, and find happiness.
