Xi’an Alliance works to promote a spirit of volunteerism. Many student volunteers are trained to participate in public welfare activities and social work. The main office is in Xi’an, China.
At 8:00 in the morning, we were heading to Lantian. The weather was lovely and we were singing songs while we were driving to Yuchuan village of Lantian.
When the vehicle drove on the mountainous road, we were surprised by the views in front of us. The mountains were covered with white snow. After 2 hours ride, we arrived at the village. The village secretary had been waiting for us. Steeping on the soft snow, we were on our way to the children’s homes.
After an hour’s walking, we came to one of the children’s home. The rooms were simple and plain. The walls are dark and the child seemed shy. He answered our questions with flush face. His grandparents helped him with some questions.
The family did not know who we are and what we are going to do. They had thought we had been sent by the government. I corrected their understanding and introduced our organization to them. And I also told them our purpose—to donate 500RMB to the student as school subsidies. Obviously, they knew nothing about non-profit organization. Holding the money, the child said, “thank you for your kindness and I will study hard.”
On leaving, the child said nothing, but stood at the door and was seeing us leaving. When we turned around, we still saw he was standing there. He waved to us when he saw we turned around. For a moment, I understood the hope of the child. Our love could help them to fulfill their dreams to step outside the mountains.
