According to their motto - “Love, truth, and service to community” - Xingyang Volunteers Federation works to enhance people’s sense of social responsibility through providing them various volunteer opportunities.
Based on an informant, we went to Jinhua Road to look for homeless people to provide them with blankets and clothes. When we arrived at the scene, we didn’t see anyone. We asked the street sanitation workers who cover this section of the city to call us as soon as they see homeless people.
In the afternoon of the 17th, we received a call from one of the street sanitation workers. We immediately stopped by our warehouse on Cheng Gao Road to pick up two blankets and rushed over to the scene. ShaoYu mama even bought seven hot Chinese pancakes on her way over. When we arrived at the scene, we saw the homeless people curled up in a tiny space underneath a structure. ShaoYu mama quickly ran over and handed over the Chinese pancakes to a homeless man. He was in a very poor condition. ShaoYu mama went ahead with co-worker Mr. Zhang and bought some hot soy milk, fried dough sticks, fried eggs, buns, and side dishes. Mr. Zhang asked the man to come out of his hiding place to eat and he cooperated. However, whenever we asked his name and where he comes from, he remained silent.
Social workers from Civil Affairs Bureau also arrived when we were there. It seemed that they knew a lot about the man. The clothes and shoes that he wore were actually given by these social workers. After repeatedly explaining and asking, the man finally told us his name and shared that he was from Kaifeng county. We called Kaifeng County Civil Affairs Bureau but received no answer. Social worker told us that as soon as they found out his home address in Kaifeng county, they would send him back home. These social workers looked very responsible, so we left.
When I got home that night, I contacted our volunteers in Kaifeng county and forwarded them the photos of the man and his info. I hope our volunteers over Kaifeng county can help out.
Dear brother, where is your home? Your family is anxiously waiting for your return!!
