Covid-19 Response

Description: SFCI has served as a lifeline for the people of the Tenderloin District since 1984. Long before COVID-19, the Tenderloin was a neighborhood in crisis. Only roughly one square mile in size with over 28,000 residents, it is plagued by blight, crime, addiction, mental health issues, and an oversized homeless population. SFCI has faithfully served the Tenderloin’s residents by providing a safety net through it’s many services – food and groceries to the homeless and housing insecure, our Health and Wellness Center provides free medical and dental services and our school, San Francisco City Academy (SFCA), impacts at-risk youth ages 5-14 (K-8th)Academy provides education and emotional, mental, and spiritual support to the children in the neighborhood.

2020 Covid-19 Response Project Report

During this unprecedented crisis we've been forced to close our Academy and Wellness Center, but SFCI is an “essential business,” so the good news is that SF City Impact has remained open! We have made adjustments, but are operating while complying with the state of California’s mandate to shelter-in- place. Our foodbank and emergency services are available to anyone in need.

Hundreds of Tenderloin residents are coming through for their to-go boxes of food and prayer. And just last week, we were allowed to enter a few SRO (Single Resident Occupancy) apartment buildings to provide for the shut-in residents and disabled. We are now feeding over 500 people each day, children and families and homeless individuals. Under current conditions, we may not be able to hug someone or give them a handshake, but we can look them in the eyes and let them know that we see them, can pray for them and we can continue to feed them with your help.
