Lina has a new perspective on life after we helped cure her congenital heart disease. Before she had heart surgery in 2010, the 11th grader in rural China had lost hope for the future. She had suffered 17 years with congenital heart disease, but her family couldn’t afford treatment.
After the successful surgery we made possible, she became more positive and confident. She even volunteered as a teacher at our summer camp for post-surgery children, giving back in gratitude for the support she had received. Three years later, she fulfilled her dream to go to college. Lina will graduate in 2016, which is a significant milestone for a female who has overcome heart disease and impoverished conditions. Now she looks forward to the future ahead of her. We're so proud of her accomplishments, and we've enjoyed staying in touch with her. Read below what she's shared with us from her life in college. I first met Jinhui in the demonstration room in Lanzhou University's First Hospital. He was standing shyly behind his father and older cousin, taking in the foreign surroundings and looking lost. When the little guy stepped before me, I could easily tell that his lips did not have a healthy hue. I asked Jinhui’s father how old the child was and if his lips were always this color. Jinhui’s father cautiously told me that the child is six years old and has always had lips like this, sometimes every more purple than today. Clearly, I knew from his response that this father has known for a few years that his child has congenital heart disease.
When children get sick, they often want their mothers to take care of them and nurse them back to health. But who takes care of mothers when they're sick?
These 4 mothers had successful surgery in January 2016 to cure their congenital heart disease. However, they still need subsidies for the operations they desperately needed but couldn't fully afford. Will you donate $50 to help take care of them?
With the support of TFish, this project aims to support poverty-stricken villagers living in Huining county, Gansu province. The project provides microloans to promote income and provide development opportunities to the villagers.
Return of micro loans in Lucha village From April 12 to 16, project workers were staying in Lucha village and did work for micro loans returning. During the visits, we found the villagers use the loans to raise sheep and cows which increased their income (above 2000RMB). The workers thought the project had received good output and the villagers satisfied with it. They hoped to be supported in the future. |
