Taiwan Prison Ministry: September Prayer Requests

9/22/2016

Picture
The pastor from the Agape Vietnamese Alliance Church in Taiwan asks us to pray for the following issues:

1) Sponsorship of a Vietnamese Bible Student Intern

We hope that a Bible student from Vietnam can be sponsored to intern with us. This will encourage the Tin Lanh church in Vietnam that is involved with our Vietnamese ministry in Taiwan. Our church is in the application process. Pray that God will allow this strategy to be implemented smoothly.

2) Increase in Ministry Workers and Financial Giving

Thank God that after the financial assistance from the C&MA mission was terminated last year, our church members, along with some Taiwanese supporters, are giving generously to cover our financial needs. This year our goal is to increase the budget to include the expense for a student intern. Please pray that more church members will volunteer to work in the prison ministry and that they will increase their financial giving.

3) University Students from Vietnam

Pray that God will give wisdom for the 8 university students coming from Vietnam. They will be helpful for the church in filling different positions.

Program Developments

Starting in January 2016, the Taiwan Prison Ministry has increased the scope of their outreach by adding a new coworker and by stepping up their discipleship program with several activities. Sister Diep has joined the prison ministry team, which has allowed them to increase these kinds of activities:
  1. More personal engagement in weekly Bible study
  2. More window visits and food distribution as an act of compassion
  3. More people engaged in Bible memorization contests and more prizes given

Instead of just giving social help to the needy, the Taiwan Prison Ministry encourages inmates to study God's word.

Taiwan Prison Ministry: 95-Year-Old Lady Baptized

6/20/2016

The Taiwanese church that we support is bearing fruit not just in their prison ministry, but also in their outreach to the local Vietnamese community. On Sunday, June 12, 2016, this church baptized a 95-year-old lady.
Picture
It all started when the 95-year-old's Vietnamese caretaker became a Christian at the church a few years ago. At first, the caretaker's boss (the elderly lady's children) treated her very strictly and didn't allow her to have Sundays off. She cried out to God, as she desired to go to church on Sunday. The church also prayed fervently for her and this situation.

Taiwan Prison Ministry: Escapees Converted

5/4/2016

Our prison ministry reaches out to Vietnamese immigrants in the Taiwan detention centers. In the past 8 years, over a thousand people have been converted in the detention centers.

However, the successful ministry has had to be suspended, due to the authorities’ response to a recent incident.

Forceful Escape

Six Vietnamese immigrants used force to take the guard down and escape from the Hsinchu detention center. They were captured and sentenced to an average of 2 months in jail.

Pastor's Visit

Our ministry partner, Pastor Thu, visited the escapees. “Why did you run away?” he asked.

“We still have large debts we owe in Vietnam,” they responded. “We want to stay in Taiwan to make more money and pay the debt.”

This is the common struggle the oppressed Vietnamese migrant workers face as a whole.

Impact Report: Taiwan Prison Ministry Letter from Trung

Letters from Prisoner Trung

The best day of Trung's 3 years in prison was the day a sister from the church came to visit him.

He describes the prison environment as a "dark and lonely world" where there are no friends, no relatives, and where each day is a boring repetition of the same machine-like routine.

But everything changed once he received the Lord.

He was like "a withering sprout that came back to life, finding true joy and hope."

Read his letter to discover how he experienced peace and meaning even from behind bars.

Changed Lives in Prison

On January 5, 2016 we visited the prison in Taipei. The weather was not too cold, and after some heavy rain we had a chance to visit some prisoners with Pastor Thu. These prisoners had heard the gospel from Pastor Thu and had accepted God as their Savior. We had 20 minutes to visit these people. We started to greet each other like two strangers, but we felt like we had known each other as family. We talked and shared our stories sincerely.
