October 7th, on the last day of the national holiday, sixth grade Mengzhi Yuan collapsed on the playground, and after, woke up with a bump on the head. We let him go home for a few days with medicine. On October 14, Mengzhi Yuan’s cousin, when he was playing with students, hit his head and when he later regained consciousness, there was cut on the forehead. The next day, with the two brothers, we went with them to seek medical treatment in hospital.

Funding is very important for our hospital, the director Wei, decided that MengZhi and his cousin had to be hospitalized. During the hospital, they had to do appropriate tests, such as the electrocardiogram, B-ultrasound, color Doppler ultrasound, and blood tests, including CT. Test results showed irregular heartbeat and bradycardia, as well as low thyroid. In order to further diagnose, the hospital suggested that we go to a bigger hospital for further examination, mainly for the thyroid test and dynamic electrocardiogram. Doctors first confirmed that their two thyroid indicators, although low, was not enough to diagnose the sickness. Then the two of them took a 24-hour dynamic electrocardiograph with a radio. The results came out, the data show that the heart rate is not Qi and bradycardia, but other tests, including color Doppler ultrasound, CT and other data show that there was no further problems; the doctor said that with their growth and development to 18 years old, it should get better. This makes us all feel at ease. Of course, we still have to always pay attention to the problem and makes sure that they gets proper rest and nutrition; he cannot undergo strenuous exercise and play.

Jia Peng and Mian Mei are brother and sister. Their parents have passed away. They made living by their grandparents’ vegetable stall. Life was difficult. In autumn semester of 2014, their grandparents brought Mia Peng and Mian Mei to Longwan Caring Home which decided to admit them unconditional.Children should have bright smiles, but happiness has been deprived.

Jia Peng is naughty and active. He always kept moving, but he is shy during group activity and standing aside. He likes drawing and he is good at it.

Mian Mei is chubby. She like smiling. She likes pretty things. She would pick some dresses and skirts for herself and held them like treasures. When she was wearing the clothes, she would run on the playground cheerfully. She would praise teachers’ dressing, “your clothes are beautiful!”

Wish Jia Peng and Mian Mei grow up healthfully.

Our children are all from the Dayao mountains and are very lacking in material comforts. They could not interact with the outside world. After coming to our home, there are often people of different areas, fields, and status who come and visit them. Each new person they meet and each new activity will give them a new perspective on life. This time, our visitors are under a similar circumstance as the children. They are older children from Huaen Children’s Village in Duan County. Some of the children asked, “Are they also orphans? Are their parents away working?”

Students and teachers from Duan Huaen Children’s Village. The village was built in 2008. The students from Huaen Children’s Village split the children up into two groups, pre-school and elementary school, to play games.

While the children played in the fields, we chatted with Director Gong and Teacher Liu of Huaen in our office.  At the end of games, everyone gathered to sing and tell stories. Time passed by very fast. An afternoon of activities ended before everyone was satisfied. We welcome our friends from the children’s village to drop by again!

Longwan Home: Returning Hometown in Chinese New Year

7/6/2015

Longwan Caring Home is located in Dahua County, which was listed as one of the poorest counties in Guangxi Province. Longwan Caring Home is a big family consisting of orphans, single parents, and abandoned children. The normal expense of the Home is sustained by plantation, breeding, and small business.

Children call him Xiao Ma Ge who is a Taiwan poet. He spent his 2014 spring festival holiday with 5 children from Liao family by visiting the children. He went to different families. The way of spending his holiday impressed many children.

This year, Xiao Ma Ge and Yao Shangde, an actor, gave up their opportunity to reunite with their family members. They came to remote areas in Guangxi Province and spent their spring festival with the children from Longwan. On February 17th, 9 persons including Xiao Ma Ge, Teacher Yao, Meng Guanyuan, etc. came to Banshen village with gifts. They would spend their 2015 Chinese New Year with the children from Longwan.

Banshen village is located in the north end of Dahua County, 124 kilometers away from the county. It is the remotest and poorest village with disadvantage natural conditions in Dahua county. Xiao Ma Ge and Teacher Yao visited many places. They managed to get closer to those children to learn their real lives.

There’s no road for the bus, so the children have to walk through mountainous paths with luggage. They have to try very hard to climb the mountains and the furthest village takes about 3 hours walk. It’s normal to climb mountains and walk through rivers. There’s endless path, but there’s also nice views and fresh air. Here are some glimpse of children living in rural areas.

Longwan Home: Liling is 14

Longwan Caring Home is located in Dahua County, which was listed as one of the poorest counties in Guangxi Province. Longwan Caring Home is a big family consisting of orphans, single parents, and abandoned children. The normal expense of the Home is sustained by plantation, breeding, and small business.

You will notice an active girl when you visit Longwan. She has bright eyes and a lovely name—Liao Liling. She is in Grade 5 and she celebrated her 14th birthday in Longwan on April 10. It was the 5th year living in Longwan for her brother, sister and 2cousins as well. Their parents passed away one after the other in 2009. They became orphans and only their granny who was a blind old woman was left alone in their hometown.

It was a tragic family. Their difficulties were unexpected. Liling has been farce to work, for the family could not afford to raise her. The days were dark.

In 2005, 5 brothers and sisters of the family came to Longwan and started their new life. Liling is a kind and thoughtful girl with wide interests. She would take the initiative to care for teachers and her schoolmates.  Her younger sisters and brothers trust her and enjoy playing with her. She helps to take care of the other children, clean and wash when the school is off. Like other girls, Liling like braids and beautiful headwear.

5 children from Liao family have art talents. Longwan has been trying hard to create opportunities for these children. Liling is good at drawing and dancing. She is creating and displaying beautiful things with her own way. She often gives her pictures to people in Longwan. They like her pictures, too. They expressed their own thoughts with pictures. With their pictures, we see the most beautiful sides in the world.

Can you imagine there’s a family? Their house was supported by a few bamboo sticks and there’s hardly a wall. It could fall dawn anytime. They had been living here for many years. Then the family built a concrete room. Before it had been done, their parents passed away. There’s only their grandmother with nothing left in the village.

During Chinese new year holidays in 2015, the children from Liao family were the last ones to leave Longwan. Xiao Ma Ge, a poet from Taiwan, has been with them for holiday for 2 years. More and more loving people began to care about them. They need our love and care and something to listen to them.

Seeing the girl with such a bright smile, we could not imagine she had experienced what painful experiences. You would be moved by her staunch will. 14 years old is the finest age. With the accompaniment of Longwan, they will not be alone on their way to grow up.

Longwan Home: No one left behind

I was lucky to know that Luoyang Charity Vocational School would admit some students from remote areas. The school has several majors as pre-school education, tourism and hotel management, e-commerce management, etc. The students who are Yao people and below 20, above 15, dropped from school with junior high school education can be admitted.

When the news came to our Home, we could not help thinking if we should win the opportunity to our children from rural areas. The children may be more useful to the society through continuing education. With discussion, we decided to visited villages and collect information from primary schools.

During the visits, we got to know many of children between 13 and 14 had dropped from school and went outside to work. Many teachers said most of Yao children in their 15 or above had gone to other provinces for their further education. It would be difficult to find the children between 15 and 20. In spite of this, 2 girls of 15 who had gone for work for 2 years found us when they heard the news and asked us to persuade their parents to let them to go to vocational school. Teacher Qi and I went to their village—Jiangnan village. It was not easy to reach, we had to climb mountains. Finally, the families agreed their children’s demands, but when we left, their parents blamed them. Their parents said they could have earned some money for the family by working in the city, but they were going to spend more money instead by going back to school. One of the girls persuaded their parents anyway by presenting a lot of facts. Low education let them earn less money than people with more education. The girl’s name is Lan Yinhua. We hope they will fulfill their dreams.

We recommended 14 children to the vocational school this time. We hope they will carry their purpose of charity forward and benefit more students with education.

Longwan Caring Home: Children from Mountainous Areas

3/30/2014

PictureBeer bottles in the basket. People drink a lot.
Longwan Caring Home is located in Dahua County, which was listed as one of the poorest counties in Guangxi Province. Longwan Caring Home is a big family consisting of orphans, single parents, and abandoned children. The normal expense of the Home is sustained by plantation, breeding, and small business.

Children from Longwan are growing up every year and our caring services are also getting better every year. Every activity helps us learn more about them. We call these people our mountain people, because there are so many that come from the mountains to receive care.

During the 2014 Chinese New Year holiday, 7 children visited the mountains with a guide, teachers and volunteers.

Walking to Nongwei village, we saw a child carrying a big basket on his back. There were beer bottles in the basket. We inferred that mountain people drink a lot.

Though it was cold, children living in the mountains live happily, but tenaciously. The children were playing and chasing each other around and growing up naturally. This is a big difference between the children living in the mountains and those living in the cities.

Though they are poor, they still preserve the traditions of celebrating Lunar New Year. They had hopes and prayers, expecting a good harvest in the coming year. People living in the mountains have steady belief. They keep working throughout their lives. There are many old men who are nearing 70 but are still as strong as ever.

We visited Meng Jinchun’s family. She was feeling better after suffering from a sickness. She was cooking. She said she would be livelier if she had not been sick. In the mountains, children often expose their wild sides. They love to climb mountains and trees.

Meng Guanyuan and Meng Guangui lost their father when they were quite young. Their mother left the children and got remarried, so they do not have a good relationship. We visited their mother and their mother had 3 children after she remarried. Her current husband drinks a lot. With tears in her eyes, she explained to us why she left the children all those years ago.

Longwan Caring Home: A Thankful Heart

Thankfulness is a mentality. A bird might thank the sky for motivating it to fly higher. Thankfulness is also a blessing. It is like a tree that thanks the earth which provides the tree with water and nutrition.Thankfulness is like sweet dew. It is like a flower that thanks the sun which provides the flower with color and fragrance. We want to thank TFish for providing us with material support.  We met unexpectedly, and now we get support and help from TFish. With the motivation and encouragement of TFish, some people in Beijing donated their spare clothes and books to us. The children said they would not feel so cold in the winter thanks to these loving people. Thanks to the help from TFish, we received 3000 RMB as seed funding. We are not good at writing blogs, but we will diligently fill out our blogs and project reports. Our development is closely connected to the support of TFish. We also thank Yang Jing, a women in Beijing, for her clothes and books. We thank all of you for your love. We wish you all the best!
