On June 18, 2016 BJ Behcet hosted a 5k walk to raise awareness for Behcet's disease. The outdoor race was called "Walk with Love." Participants included 13 patients with Behcet's disease, 45 volunteers, and Behcet's disease specialists.
5K Walk Raises Awareness
This event was organized by the China Fuli Foundation, Behcet Alliance and Zhi Guang Gong Yi. It was a great success, even though it was a hot sunny day! The participants handed out pamphlets to the public along the way to increase awareness about Behcet's disease. The volunteers and experts hoped to gain more support for patients with this disease. A film was also made to help people understand the disease, to avoid misdiagnosis and to have early intervention.
Everyone was full of energy before the walk started. This is the photo with the Huadong Hospital Director of Rheumatology, Professor Guan Jian Long, 44 volunteers from Zhi Guang Gongyi, and 14 patients from Behcet Alliance.
Behcet's disease, also known as "the Silk Road disease," is a rare disease that leads to the development of ulcers. On May 28th, the Behcet's Disease Patient Union from Beijing Baikailan Behcet's Disease Care Center hosted the 2016 International Behcet's Disease Care/Awareness Day with a conference for doctors and patients in Guangzhou to promote awareness.
Behcet’s disease patients and their family members, medical experts, researchers, media staff, and volunteers from all over the world (with a total of 70 people) attended this event and talked face-to-face about disease prevention and control.
