A pilot project in partnership with Qinyuan in Gansu Executive SummaryQinyuan Microloans is a pilot project co-sponsored by Transparent Fish Fund and Qinyuan Rural Development in Gansu. The project was launched on May 12, 2015, when twenty families were selected for loans of 2000 yuan (about $320 USD) each. Their investments—all in livestock of their own choice—have shown healthy progress and been documented. Qinyuan, the organization managing the local affairs, demonstrated excellent grassroots services, although several issues were noticed and required further attention. The village’s inhabitants, environment, and cultural background were described for future reference. Qinyuan’s other projects in the area were also explored for informational purposes. A follow up trip has been tentatively set for August this year after Ramadan.

Xiao Ma Ge and Teacher Yao visited many places. They managed to get closer to those children to learn their real lives. There’s no road for the bus, so the children have to walk through mountainous paths with luggage. They have to try very hard to climb the mountains and the furthest village takes about 3 hours walk. It’s normal to climb mountains and walk through rivers. There’s endless path, but there’s also nice views and fresh air. Here are some glimpse of children living in rural areas. Original Article Written by Banai Hua, translated by Maggie Li, edited by Yanyan Zhang According to their motto - “Love, truth, and service to community” - Xingyang Volunteer Federation works to enhance people’s sense of social responsibility through providing them various volunteer opportunities. The office is in Xingyang, Henan province. Wang Zhengling lives in a rural village. He is disabled and his wife passed away. He has a daughter. Difficulties made him become stubborn and lonely. He had bad relationship with his neighbors. Xingyang knew about his situation. We helped to build temp house for him in June of 2012. The whole village had running water, but he had to collect rain water for use and drinking. He hoped to have running water, too. We decided to help him and his daughter with clean water. After site survey and plan, we began to prepare materials for running water. The next day, we went to the village with all materials. Everything was organized well and we could start work immediately. Some persons were responsible for arrange wires, pipes, connections. Some were digging the channels. Zu Ge took photos while digging channels. At lunch time, a volunteer prepared noodles for us. The villagers invited us to have lunch with them. We thanked them and began to eat our own simple lunch. We also planned our work in the afternoon. Technology seemed important. Within 20 minutes, a channel of 80 meters was done. We began to arrange pipes. We went to the township for purchasing more pipes and repaired pipes for other villagers. The water did not run out for the first time, so we had to do a check and found disconnected place. Some neighbors came for help. After everything was done, we tried again. A clean water ran out from the tap. We were excited and tried to meet the water with mouths, leaving water to splash on the face. We swallowed some and it tasted good. Dream came true and Wang Zhengling smiled. He was too happy to say anything and kept rubbing his hands and making bows to us. He said many thanks and her neighbors forgot the unhappy time with him. The friendship was filled the village. The red sunset lights fell on smiling faces. Original article written by Chunli Liu, translated by Maggie Li, edited by Yanyan Zhang Xi’an Alliance works to promote a spirit of volunteerism. The machine runs quickly and a technician re-stalled the system for free. When we sent the pc to Xiufang’s home and told her it was donated by 029 Public Service Organization. Original article written by Ping Wang, translated by Maggie Li, edited by Yanyan Zhang Longwan Caring Home is located in Dahua County, which was listed as one of the poorest counties in Guangxi Province. Longwan Caring Home is a big family consisting of orphans, single parents, and abandoned children. The normal expense of the Home is sustained by plantation, breeding, and small business. You will notice an active girl when you visit Longwan. She has bright eyes and a lovely name—Liao Liling. She is in Grade 5 and she celebrated her 14th birthday in Longwan on April 10. It was the 5th year living in Longwan for her brother, sister and 2cousins as well. Their parents passed away one after the other in 2009. They became orphans and only their granny who was a blind old woman was left alone in their hometown. It was a tragic family. Their difficulties were unexpected. Liling has been farce to work, for the family could not afford to raise her. The days were dark. In 2005, 5 brothers and sisters of the family came to Longwan and started their new life. Liling is a kind and thoughtful girl with wide interests. She would take the initiative to care for teachers and her schoolmates. Her younger sisters and brothers trust her and enjoy playing with her. She helps to take care of the other children, clean and wash when the school is off. Like other girls, Liling like braids and beautiful headwear. 5 children from Liao family have art talents. Longwan has been trying hard to create opportunities for these children. Liling is good at drawing and dancing. She is creating and displaying beautiful things with her own way. She often gives her pictures to people in Longwan. They like her pictures, too. They expressed their own thoughts with pictures. With their pictures, we see the most beautiful sides in the world. Can you imagine there’s a family? Their house was supported by a few bamboo sticks and there’s hardly a wall. It could fall dawn anytime. They had been living here for many years. Then the family built a concrete room. Before it had been done, their parents passed away. There’s only their grandmother with nothing left in the village. During Chinese new year holidays in 2015, the children from Liao family were the last ones to leave Longwan. Xiao Ma Ge, a poet from Taiwan, has been with them for holiday for 2 years. More and more loving people began to care about them. They need our love and care and something to listen to them. Seeing the girl with such a bright smile, we could not imagine she had experienced what painful experiences. You would be moved by her staunch will. 14 years old is the finest age. With the accompaniment of Longwan, they will not be alone on their way to grow up. Original article written by Ban Aihua, translated by Maggie Li, edited by Yanyan Zhang Grounded on core values of respect, love, and service to the elderly, the Xin Yue Senior Citizen Service Center of Chongqing, China, promotes social work services for senior citizens and builds harmonious living environment for them.

Their participation enthusiasm was expectation. The social workers distributed posters and advertisement for the activity. 32 participants were recruited in less than 2 days. The activity opened as schedule. 32 senior citizens were organized to relevant tables. Before the game, the senior citizens with the same table were talking happily. Their got to know each other and the game atmosphere was harmonious. To have an efficient game, the social workers explained the competition rules to each senior citizen. Most of the competitors are about 80, but their situations are very well. During the game, the social workers also explained rules to the participants with questions. Enjoy the process of the game is more important. With tolerant altitude, the senior citizens will keep healthy. In the end, Grandpa Luo won the championship after 3 rounds of competition. When the game was over, the senior citizens began to expect the next session, which could not only enrich their spare time, but get to know more people and make friends. Sincere friendship can enrich light and hope to their lives. Original article written by Ling Feng, translated by Maggie Li, edited by Yanyan Zhang Little Red Scarf is in Lanzhou, Gansu and Yunnan province and provides financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, they provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle. The first time I saw Tingting was in a doctor’s office. Dr. Zhang was asking a group of people, “Does anyone have low-income medical insurance? If you do, you can apply for government serious illness relief funds. If you don’t, we have …” Before Dr. Zhang could finish, someone next to him responded, “Yes, we have low-income medical insurance.” Following the sound of that person’s voice, I noticed a little girl looking around in the crowd and an old person next to her because, in this crowd, they are the most conspicuous. The elderly wore an old-fashioned, self-made Chinese tunic suit (the type where the buyer selects the fabric and brings it to a tailor to make). A tunic suit has anything but disappeared in the cities. Although sometimes some senior citizens from rural areas would don the suit, youth nowadays never dress like that. The little girl has a head of messy hair and bright red cheeks. The next time I saw Tingting was on the next day, when Dr. Zhang called me, telling me that a little girl who came yesterday. Her father did not understand what the doctor said. Their low-income insurance cannot be used. Dr. Zhang asked me to drop by the heart surgery department if I have time. The little girl’s family condition is very special, so she should fit Little Red Scarf’s support criteria. So I went to the hospital ward to find Tingting’s father. I told him I am Ms. Yun from Little Red Scarf. I pointed to a Little Red Scarf poster that happened to be hanging on the wall. I told him that the doctor told me to come find you. Tingting’s father continued to stare at me expressionlessly. I repeated that I am Ms. Yun from Little Red Scarf and asked him to go with me to the doctor’s office. To some patients’ relatives in the hospital (especially those who have never been far from their hometown and those who are illiterate), if you are not wearing a white robe, they will not respond to you no matter whom you say you are. But if you can accurate tell them their child’s physician’s name and tell them that the doctor is looking for them, they will for sure go with you. This Independence Day, consider helping a family in western China gain independence from poverty. Fireworks are bursting with colorful light, and these pictured children Qi Lin, Ting Ting, and Liang Xia are glimmering with hope. After successfully completing congenital heart disease surgery, they certainly have reason to smile. Let's give them more to smile about and help their families break free from poverty. There are 213 people urgently waiting for help. With your partnership, we can support them to become sustainable and increase their quality of life.
