Nayong: Children in Difficulty—3 Sisters

12/30/2016

Picture
Compassion Nayong Public Welfare is based on Nayong, a poverty-stricken area in Guizhou Province. Taking the network as the platform, it carries out various public welfare activities to aid education.

13 years ago, Zhen Zhen’s mother married Zhen Zhen’s father with a boy. In this recombined family, Zhen Zhen’s mother gave birth to 3 girls. Zhen Zhen is 14, Mei Mei is 12 and the youngest, Hui Hui, is 10, but cannot walk normally. She has not attended school.

Happy life did not last long. The family found Hui Hui could not walk as her contemporaries. She suffered from serious back ache. The family was covered with sadness.

Misfortunes never came singly. 4 years ago, Zhen Zhen’s father was diagnosed terminal stage of cancer. He died 6 months later, leaving his wife and 4 children with heavy medical debts (over 10,000RMB).

Nayong: Children in Difficulty—Xiao Qian

Compassion Nayong Public Welfare is based on Nayong, a poverty-stricken area in Guizhou Province. Taking the network as the platform, it carries out various public welfare activities to aid education.

Before writing the story, I read a story about a patient with congenital heart disease. Her name is Le Er. The family of 4 suffer from different diseases. The poor family fell into desperation. Thanks to the support of TFish, treatment for Le Er became possible. I could not help sighing: a family cannot have happiness before the disease has been cured. According to the materials for Caring Children in Difficulty, I found most of the children were abandoned by the families due to major illness or parents’ illness. Some of the family were left with heavy debts, which led the poverty of the family.

This is a girl named Xiao Qian. She is 9 and in grade 2.

For half a hours staying in her family for the survey, she kept silent, standing aside and staring the social workers were writing. She was asked to take photos and she was listening to her fathers’ narration for the family situation without a word. She did not smile or showed any curious during the whole process. She seemed no interests in anything.

Nayong Love: Children in Need- Strong in the Storm

12/29/2016

Compassion Nayong Public Welfare is based in Nayong, a poverty-stricken area in Guizhou Province. Taking the network as the platform, it carries out various public welfare activities to aid education.

Weiwei is the first child we took in under Transparent Fish’s "Care for Children in Rural Areas" project. He is nine years old and is in second grade. His family’s difficulties are harder than that of other families we know. But fortunately, his mother is strong; the three siblings, although they have undergone many difficult living conditions, are still full of happiness and love under their mother's care.

In March 2015, our volunteer Wang Yong visited the family for the first time. In his record, he wrote, "The difficult conditions are beyond what words can describe. They have no room to live in, and they now live in a simple tent with wooden sticks and bamboo structures with no tile. It is all covered with plastic. Where there is constant rain leaking through and no shade from the sun, this place cannot be considered home."

After visiting them, we came to understand that Weiwei's father, who was suffering from jaundice and hepatitis, died in 2015, leaving his wife a sum of more than 30,000 RMB of debt and three young children. When the father was still alive, the family lived together with his uncles in several old wooden houses left by their ancestors. After his death, the old wooden house was occupied by the uncles who lived there; the orphans and the widow reluctantly moved out, with bamboo and plastic as a simple living shed now. They have been living in the shed for about a year and a half now.

ACR: Update December 2016

Adonai Child Rehabilitation is a Christian faith-based ministry in Kalaymyo, Myanmar that was established in May 2016. This ministry creates a place of rehabilitation for children and teenagers from various backgrounds like orphans, unwanted children, street children, and poor children.

Orphans in their new winter clothes
First of all we praise the Lord for His faithfulness to the Adonai orphans for His provision and His presence in our daily movements. And we also express our heartfelt gratitude to all our prayer partners locally and internationally. Special thanks goes to the organization Transparent Fish Fund for their love, prayers, and generous support. May God bless everyone who partners with us in prayer and sowing finances.

Firewood Donation

A 57-year-old woman named Mrs. Iang Chin from Hman Daw village came to our hosel by tricycle and brought a bunch of firewood on December 16th. This was her story.

Her child was sick and admitted to the hospital. She brought some firewood to the hospital to cook rice for themselves. Her child recovered soon and they were about to go home, which was 50 kilometers away. She wanted to donate her firewood, so she searched around.

She heard about the Adonai orphans from another woman who had helped our orphans by giving them bananas. And so she came to the Adonai hostel and gave us the firewood to cook rice. The firewood she gave will be used for cooking for three days.

We are so glad for her loving kindness upon the poor orphans. Even though her gift was small, her loving heart is great and immeasurable.

LRS: Cuimei

12/21/2016

Little Red Scarf is in Lanzhou, Gansu province and provides financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, they provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle.
Picture
In May 2016, we received very bad news.  Cuimei's brother, Shixiang, unfortunately passed away due to heart failure while on the way to Xi'an to receive medical treatment. It was a great blow to the family.

For a long time his parents immersed themselves in the memories of their son. However, their spirits were lifted once again because they still had a beautiful daughter to take care of who also needed medical attention.

They decided to have Cuimei's grandmother stay home to look after her, and her parents and grandfather would work to earn money for Cuimei's surgical costs.  After half a year they had made about 10,000 RMB.  Her parents decided to start Cuimei's heart treatment with this money.
Cuimei is four years old this year. She was wearing a beautiful skirt with a cute mushroom hair style when we saw her at the hospital. She was waiting in the hallway for admission into the hospital. Her father said, "My legs started trembling when I stepped into the hospital."

With the help of Little Red Scarf, Cuimei was admitted to the hospital. The tests results showed there was a ventricular septal defect of 4mm. This means an interventional surgery could be started and surgical risks are therefore reduced.  However, Cuimei's parents still worry constantly about her because their two other children passed away because of congenital heart disease.

LRS Care: Return Visit--Dongsheng

12/18/2016

Little Red Scarf is in Lanzhou, Gansu, and Yunnan provinces. We provide financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, we provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle.
Thank you for your contributions: PC $220; Anonymous JW $70; James Ko $90; En-Yong Foundation $100.  Total: $480 (equivalent to 3,000 RMB).

We continue to follow up with  Dongsheng's family as part of our Adopt a Family program. The family has had several health issues they needed to address with the donated money. The dad often has headaches and severe dizziness; the mother has gallstones, but because of the medical expenses, she delayed having surgery. We hoped they could take Dongsheng for a dental checkup as well.

We gave the donation in two parts.

The first part: On May 2015, the staff visited Dongsheng’s home to understand the actual situation of the family. The 2,000 RMB was given in cash to them. The family, in order to express gratitude, got a brush to write "thank you!"

The second part: In early 2016, we gave the family 1,000 RMB, hoping they could have a good year.

Yunnan Leprosy: Visited Leprosy Patients with Liang Ping

12/15/2016

Picture
Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry: People with leprosy are sent to isolated villages where they are abandoned and forgotten by society. The Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry has a special place in its heart for these people and organizes groups of volunteers to travel to villages plagued with leprosy in order to provide medical, living, and psychological assistance. The Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry is located in Kunming, Yunnan.

I met Doctor Liang Ping in 2010 when we brought a group to visit village. I had heard her name from a lot of foreign friends. This time, I had the opportunity to meet her, a plain women with a backpack, holding medicine box on the shoulder and wearing a sunhat. I later knew, their services were done at the outdoor, so Liang Ping was wearing a sunhat to protect her eyes.

I was honored to be with volunteers of Shalom and participated serving ministry. I experienced their difficulties and love in serving the lepers. Their love, tolerance and giving were outstanding. In particular, Liang Ping who had been serving lepers for more than 10 years did a lot of jobs for treating and healing lepers as bring medicines and help to build water tanks and solar-powered bath by cooperation with TFish and volunteers. She also tried her best to help the patients’ children to go to school.

There are dozens of villages for lepers in Yunnan province. Liang Ping had visited a lot of them. She paid to travels, medicines and gifts for the lepers before she received support from TFish. She always keep the lepers’ needs in her mind. She brought 4 of lepers who were comparably young to hospital for the treatment and paid their medical fees. The government’s subsidies (200RMB/month) for the lepers were far from enough for their lives. 4 of them received government’s subsistence allowances who are above 70 years old. Apart from food, they need to take medicines. Life is hard for them.
