ACR: Update October 2016

10/31/2016

Adonai Child Rehabilitation is a Christian faith-based ministry in Kalaymyo, Myanmar that was established in May 2016. This ministry creates a place of rehabilitation for children and teenagers from various backgrounds like orphans, unwanted children, street children, and poor children.

Glory to God

First of all, we would like to give glory to our heavenly Father who enables us to step forward with His marvelous grace and care. Secondly our sincere gratitude goes to sister Nancy and all the staff at Transparent Fish Fund for their hard work and partnership along with heartfelt prayer to support the Adonai orphans in Kalaymyo, Myanmar. May the Lord bless each and every one of them physically and spiritually.

Poor Neighbor Donates Gourd

God really cares for the orphans as it says in James 1:27. One woman named Hannah, who is our neighbor, brought a very big gourd for our orphans. This is awesome and precious because she was moved by God to love and help our orphans. She planted and grew the gourd on her own farm. She is a poor woman but she loved the orphans and gave them her vegetables. If she had sold it at the market she could have gotten $4 for it. We are so overwhelmed with tremendous joy. We keep her name on our prayer list and will always pray for her family. We mixed that gourd with chicken and fried it so our orphans could enjoy chicken curry with gourd.

Since 2009 Orphan Impact has been delivering valuable computer training to orphans throughout Vietnam. In 2016 we helped expand the EdTech program to China. Underprivileged children learn to use computers and the Internet to design, create, store, share, consume, and communicate information. Students gain self-confidence, motivation, and important job skill training.

Update October 31, 2016

During a follow-up post-surgery visit this year, we found out that Boyu was in need of additional surgeries, so we decided to include him in our LRS Care program.

For a period of time we had lost touch with Boyu's family due to his parent’s cell phone inactivation. We finally reconnected with his family through Dr. Tang and were able to talk with them on the phone.

We learned that Boyu has completed two brain surgeries and is still recovering. However, his family can no longer afford the medicine that provides a critical protein to him. The $755 raised from the walkathon will help his family's financial situation.

Follow the journey with Xiejuan as she undergoes surgery and recovers.
September 4, 2016

Finally, Xiejuan's father received the long awaited phone call from Dr. Liu, who invited Xiejuan to check in to the hospital the next day, because the specialist was on the way for her operation. It was arranged to have a specialist from Beijing perform the surgery since Xiejuan had a very complicated heart condition. Her father felt great about the news, but on the other hand, he was also nervous because of the inevitable risks.

September 5, 2016

We went to meet Xiejuan early in the day. "Little Red Scarf!" she yelled out, even before we arrived at the door. Obviously, our efforts of communication had paid off. She accepted us, and acted upbeat.

Picture
Xiejuan underwent a long operation that lasted for 8 hours, and her father endured torturous waiting. We were all nervous until her father delivered the good news late in the day. The operation was successful, and she was transferred to the ICU for monitoring.  After a week of monitoring in the ICU, Xiejuan was transferred to an ordinary ward. Her condition was stable, but she was very weak. The recovery seemed very sluggish. We saw her father's bewildered eyes, and we were uneasy as well.

Two days after leaving the ICU Xiejuan was still weak, and motionlessly leaned on a pillow.

Yunnan Leprosy: Project Activities in September

10/18/2016

Picture
Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry:People with leprosy are sent to isolated villages where they are abandoned and forgotten by society. The Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry has a special place in its heart for these people and organizes groups of volunteers to travel to villages plagued with leprosy in order to provide medical, living, and psychological assistance. The Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry is located in Kunming, Yunnan.

On 2016, Shengen continued his visit to the leprosy villages, volunteers, such as Liang Ping, could only visit Yiliang County this month due to transportation reason. There, visited the sheep pens and the ditches in rehabilitation village. They were also mainly there to give the survivors medical help.

1: Medical Services:

9 months 5 days ago, we went to the of Yiliang County with his team to visit the rehabilitation center. Our greatest need is Liang Ping because she is a doctor who specializes in acupuncture and medicine. Liang Ping’s gave BoCai’s uncle acupuncture. BoCai is now living in their home, since its convenient for him there to attend school. His back was very painful. He's the one most looking forward to is Dr. Liang Ping, because the acupuncture and medicine are very helpful to him. But because they could not continue giving him acupuncture treatment, his condition will relapse in a week.

Those particularly in need of medical services are the elderly women, particularly in terms of gynecological problems. Unfortunately, Liang Ping cannot help them solve that issues and only give them acupuncture to help ease their pain. Their bodily functions are highly affected due to nutritional deficiencies. BoCai’s grandfather is really in need of the acupuncture because he has pain in both his bac and legs. When the pain lapse, he is even unable to carry simple things. The medicine Dr. Liang Ping makes for his back and acupuncture is particularly good. This is his partner who lives outside of the village to recover- Grandmother Li. She is very sick and have been waiting at the rehabilitation village to let Liang Ping give her a good look. This are the medicines Liang Ping prescribed for her illness.

Baocai’s grandfather is most in need of the medicine Liang Ping makes. Unfortunately, it is few in number and often unable to ensure their needs. So, Dr. Liang Ping decided to teach them how to make it themselves in times of need.

LRS Care: Shi Rui

Little Red Scarf is in Lanzhou, Gansu, and Yunnan provinces. We provide financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, we provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle

Shi Rui is a young girl in a family of four. Her older brother has just entered junior high. The family owns about 4 acres of farmland in which they use to grow rice, peanuts, sweet potatoes, and other low-maintenance crops. After deducting from the amount they need to pay to grow the crops, they earn an annual income of about 5,000 RMB. Although they are poor, the family is very loving and peaceful. When Shi Rui was about five months old, she came down with a fever that continued on for days. After going to the clinic to check her condition, they received the devastating news that she had congenital heart disease. This was the beginning of her road of constant medical checkups. In order to pay for these checkups, the family has had to take on a lot of debt.

Being in the countryside all their lives, Shi Rui’s parents do not have much of an educational background. Since they did not know how they could improve Shi Rui’s conditions, they could only borrow more money to spend on Shi Rui’s medical treatments. The doctors say they it is imperative that Shi Rui goes through surgery in order to get better. However, surgery would cost them tens and thousands of dollars- an amount that they could not afford to pay. When they though that all hope was lost, they were introduced to Little Red Scarf by the local clinics. To their surprise, Little Red Scarf contacted them shortly after they handed in their application. After receiving their call and saying that they could finance Shi Rui’s surgery, they quickly packaged their luggage in preparation to bring their child to the city.

LRS: Story of Cuiping

This cute and carefree little girl is called Cuiping. She is 10 years old this year and suffers from congenital heart disease. She lives in a small mountain village. Her family consists of four people: her father, mother, sister, and Cuiping.

Cuiping’s father is 46 and has a hearing disability. Anyone who is trying to communicate with him needs to yell very loudly so he can hear. When talking with Cuiping’s family, we found out that her father contracted otitis media, a type of ear infection, at age 12. At that time his family’s economic situation did not allow him to be properly cured, so he is left with this disability. What makes us even sadder is that all four members of Cuiping’s family have some level of disability. When Cuiping’s uncle put before the four neatly lined-up disability certificates, I did not know how to react because I’ve never seen an entire family suffering from disabilities. Cuiping’s mother is 42 years old this year and has a mental disability (psychological disorder).
The girl in photo is Cuiping’s older sister, Cuiling, who is 20 years old this year. Because of mental disability, she could not ever enroll in school. She has always been at home helping her parents with some doable farm work, such as herding sheep and weeding. Regrettably, Cuiping will never be able to reach her dream of going to school. Even if her congenital heart disease is cured, she will be barred from school by her mental disability.

LRS Care: Thank You Letter from Le Le

10/11/2016

Little Red Scarf is in Lanzhou, Gansu, and Yunnan provinces. We provide financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, we provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle

I first heard about LRS a few years ago when I was in junior high, and Lina, my sister, was in senior high. Lina had been suffering from congenital heart disease, and she wasn't able to participate in phys ed classes and many normal activities. A surgical operation could correct the defect, but our family simply couldn't afford it. She was very frustrated, and might have felt fated. As luck would have it, our family learned that LRS could help needy kids have their hearts corrected. That was the light at the end of the tunnel.

Soon after, LRS helped Lina have heart surgery in April 2010. The operation was successful, and the recovery went so well that she attended the LRS summer camp in Pingliang, Gansu in August the same year. She used to be a vulnerable kid waiting for help. Now, six years later, she has grown into an energetic teacher helping many other kids. To fulfill her contribution, she volunteered for the LRS Lanzhou summer camp this August. Her passion influenced me to volunteer for the Lanzhou marathon, and also to help out in the summer camp.

At the summer camp, LRS found out that I was a university student with great financial difficulties, and they gave me a tuition subsidy of $300 USD. LRS helped my sister and brought her new life. And that removed my parents' anxiety. Now LRS has helped me financially for my studies. We are more grateful than spoken words can tell. Since I'm at school in Lanzhou city, I'll find spare time to join the LRS volunteers' team. I wish to practically help kids suffering from congenital heart defects.
