Compassion Nayong Public Welfare: An Honest Child

7/31/2013

Compassion Nayong Public Welfare is based on Nayong, a poverty-stricken area in Guizhou Province. Taking the network as the platform, it carries out various public welfare activities to aid education.
Picture
Long Yan is in Grade 1. Her father passed away and she lives with her mother and her stepfather.

The place where she lives is 2000 meters above sea level. The crops cannot grow well and most of people here had to go out to work. Due to these conditions, Long Yan is hard-working and independent.

She never goes to school late or leaves school early. She works hard at school and does great job in her examinations. She also has good characters.

One day after school, when her cousin and Long Yang were playing outside of the village, they found a 100 yuan note in the road. At that moment, Long Yang remembered that her mother had told her not to accept ill-gotten gains, and the teacher also told them to be honest. 100 yuan is not a small amount. Long Yan and her cousin made a decision: ask the teacher to keep the money and wait for the person who lost the money to claim it.

They found the teacher and told the teacher about the money. Later, a villager who lost the money got the money back.

At that critical moment, Long Yan was honest and made the right decision. Teachers praised her for her behavior. She became a model child among the other children at school.

Little Red Scarf: Don’t Cry, Xue Yan

7/28/2013

Little Red Scarf is in Lanzhou, Gansu province and provides financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, they provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle

The girl in the photo is Xue Yan and the other two are her grandmother and father. Unlike other children, she was accompanied by her grandmother and father when she was receiving treatment in the hospital.

Her mother is mentally retarded according to her father, but her mother’s love for Xue Yan is no less. Her mother wasn’t able to come to the hospital and take care of her. So her grandmother who has been taking care of Xue Yan came to the hospital with Xue Yan.

Xue Yan just came out of ICU. The wound is painful, but she won’t cry, holding back the tears in her eyes. Though she is 3, she is lying there quietly, and she may know it’s time to learn to take care of herself.

Her father could not write, nor read, so the nurse had to take a measuring glass and teach him how to use it to help Xue Yan take medicine.

Her grandmother nursed her carefully after the operation. Her father bought the food and her grandmother fed her.

These pictures show a comparison before and after the operation. She showed us that she was recovering well and told us she would soon leave the hospital. Xue Yan is happy. We give her our best wishes, hoping she will grow up happily and healthily.

The Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry: Project Tracking in June

7/28/2013

People with leprosy are sent to isolated villages where they are abandoned and forgotten by society. The Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry has a special place in its heart for these people and organizes groups of volunteers to travel to villages plagued with leprosy in order to provide medical, living, and psychological assistance. The Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry is located in Kunming, Yunnan.

2 visits were organized in June. One was to the Yimen leprosy village and another was to visit Lao Yang, a rehabilitation client in Songming.

Liang Ping brought medicine for each of the clients and gave them instructions.

We were surprised during our visit to Lao Yang. We saw black goats before we met Lao Yang. The villagers told us that Lao Yang and some of his relatives raised money and purchased black goats with almost 1000 yuan.

We were also surprised to see a fridge in his room. He explained it’s summer and it’s not easy to keep food fresh, so his relatives and friends raised enough money for a fridge for him. He is enjoying the modern life, too.

We thought a lot. Lao Yang life in the village has relieved a lot of life's presure. We brought medicine when we visited the place. Lao Yang enjoys welfare from the local government, which has improved his life. We hope the lives of all our patients living in rural areas can be improved. We hope they also enjoy the results brought by economic development.

Xi’an Alliance: Dreams Beyond Mountains

7/28/2013

Picture
Xi'an Alliance works to promote a spirit of volunteerism. Many student volunteers are trained to participate in public welfare activities and social work.

My name is Li Qing and I am 11 years old. I live in Lantian County. I am in grade 5 and I like study and do well at school. There are 5 people in my family, my grandmother, father, mother, younger sister and me.

We have 2 acres of mountainous field and our life expenses rely on it. My mum is in poor condition and she cannot take care of us, though I know she loves us very much. My sister is in grade 1 and she can take care of herself. After school, together with my dad, we do some fieldwork and housework.

My home is far away from the school, so we have to get up quite early and walk about 1.5 hours to get to school. My sister and I have to pay about 1200 yuan for food at school. Sometimes, I take care of my sister by taking her schoolbag for her or carrying her on my back. I love my dad. He would ride a motor bike to pick up my sister and me if he finished his field work earlier. My mum would meet us at the entrance of the village when she heard the sound of motorbike. It was the happiest time in my life. Some students in our class live even further away.

This year, my sister and I received support from some loving people. They will help me until I graduate from high school. I am so happy and my dad does not have to work so hard. My sister and I will study hard and thank those loving people.

Mingda School: Love Cannot Be Stopped

7/28/2013

Mingda School pays attention to rural education in northwest of China, in particular English education. The School provides a relaxing and healthy education environment for the left-behind children living in rural areas.

The Rainbow Village just purchased 500 books for teenagers. The books were sent to the Mingda School yesterday.

Fen Hu drove to drop off the books. Li Jia just went to take a look. When he arrived at our teaching site, he commented on the difficult path I have chosen for my career. I think it just makes up for my hubris when I was young. Working here helps me to think rationally.

I used to work at the office of a state-owned school and I showed no interest in things unrelated to me, so it took courage to give it up. Eventually I was moved because of transformations taking place at the school and as a result of my persistence.

Compassion Nayong Public Welfare: A Day of Children Living in Mountainous Areas

7/25/2013

Compassion Nayong Public Welfare is based on Nayong, a poverty-stricken area in Guizhou Province. Taking the network as the platform, it carries out various public welfare activities to aid education.

Children get up early every morning. Because the school provides a nutritious lunch, the children wait expectantly for the bell, which means they can have a very nice lunch at the school. It takes about 2-3 hours for them to go back home after school. When they get back home, they usually help to do some housework. They do their school assignments late at night with help from a torch light. Then they have to get up at 4:00 in the morning in order to get to school on time.

Xingzhi Migrant Art School: Project Track in June--Graphic Design Course

7/24/2013

Xingzhi Migrant Art School is a non-profit organization that offers art lessons for the children of migrant workers who otherwise would not have this opportunity. This update was written by Director Gu, the founder of and a teacher at the Art School in Beijing.

Our new course-- Graphic Design—has started. Gu is the teacher. Seeing his blood-shot eyes and the materials he had prepared for us, we knew he must have been staying up late to prepare the course for us. He must have checked and read many documents to find the knowledge that would suit us. We knew he must have been tired, for he just had a heart stents operation. He gave us a lot and nothing can be compared to his generosity.

WE want to thank TFish for their support, for we have another teacher now. The students will work hard and cherish every learning opportunity. Our new teacher, Mr. Liu, will give us lessons on plane structure.
