Little Red Scarf is in Lanzhou, Gansu province and provides financial support and encouragement to children suffering from congenital heart disease. In addition, they provide families with post-operative care and help the children sustain a healthy lifestyle
The girl in the photo is Xue Yan and the other two are her grandmother and father. Unlike other children, she was accompanied by her grandmother and father when she was receiving treatment in the hospital.
Her mother is mentally retarded according to her father, but her mother’s love for Xue Yan is no less. Her mother wasn’t able to come to the hospital and take care of her. So her grandmother who has been taking care of Xue Yan came to the hospital with Xue Yan.
Xue Yan just came out of ICU. The wound is painful, but she won’t cry, holding back the tears in her eyes. Though she is 3, she is lying there quietly, and she may know it’s time to learn to take care of herself.
Her father could not write, nor read, so the nurse had to take a measuring glass and teach him how to use it to help Xue Yan take medicine.
Her grandmother nursed her carefully after the operation. Her father bought the food and her grandmother fed her.
These pictures show a comparison before and after the operation. She showed us that she was recovering well and told us she would soon leave the hospital. Xue Yan is happy. We give her our best wishes, hoping she will grow up happily and healthily.
