On May 20, 2013, we held an activity on garbage sorting at the Xiaxiyuan Primary School. About 200 primary students from 4 classes participated in the activity. Xiaxiyuan Primary School has many Muslim students and garbage classification is still new for them. They watched a PPT and videos and then they learned to classify a cigarette box into 3 kinds of garbage: plastic film, metal seal bar and paper. On January 16, 2013, at the Xijie community of Lanzhou city, we held a lecture on how to collect and scientifically process waste oil from kitchen ventilators. Over 10 households attended the interactive discussion. The participants expressed that they would make sure to collect waste oil during the upcoming Chinese New Year holidays, instead of dumping it into the sewage. Through our discussions, the attendees learned more about the recycling of the waste oil from kitchen ventilator. This article is about an event that the center held recently. Our volunteers from “Roots & Shoots” group of Yuzhong Campus, Lanzhou University visited a good number of primary and secondary schools in Yuzhong county of Lanzhou to carry out the 2012 international Animal Action Week (AAW) activities, including: Wen Cheng primary school, Triangle City primary school, Zhan Jia Ying primary school, Sang Yuan Tze primary school, and Health Road primary school, Qilihe district of Lanzhou. Through the participation of annual AAW activities, students from primary and secondary schools can learn more about elephants, tigers, seals, and other animals. Understand their habitat and realize that some of these animals are endangered and on the brink of extinction. This enables these children to develop a good sense of caring for these animals from an early age. Original Article written by Jie Li, translated by Joe Hsu, edited by Yanyan Zhang
