Loving Public Welfare Association: Project Tracking in July

9/14/2013

Loving Public Welfare Association of Anding District,Dingxi City of Gansu Province is consisted of teachers and students from universities, which is engaged in helping vulnerable groups by means of voluntary services.

We completed 3 things in July:

Part I: 2013 summer voluntary teaching

The volunteers had ten days of military training and teaching. The activity not only enhanced their knowledge, but increased their soldier-like qualities. I was responsible for the military training throughout the entire time. I was stern, but my students were still reluctant to leave when it was over.

Loving Public Welfare Association of Anding District: We Are in the Forefront of Relief

8/14/2013

Loving Public Welfare Association of Anding District,Dingxi City of Gansu Province is consisted of teachers and students from universities, which is engaged in helping vulnerable groups by means of voluntary services.

At 7:45 on July 22, 2013, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake with 20,000 meters focal depth hit Gansu.  89 people died, 5 are missing and 800 are injured.  31600 were resettled.

As a local volunteer organization, we arrived at the quake-hit areas first. After a 4 hour long ride, the volunteers arrived at Daming County. They rushed to the Lalu village because it was the worst-hit area. As the road was blocked, the volunteers had to walk 6 kilometers.

We were shocked by the situation in front of us. All the mud-brick houses in the 3 villages had collapsed. Everything had been buried under the ruins, leaving people shaking in the wind. Children and babies had no milk. They were crying with hunger. A grandmother of over 70 lost her grandson. She was weeping……

At 23:00, the volunteers and firemen were busy with rescue jobs, which continued until 3:00 in the morning. The volunteers returned to the camp, summarizing relief information and discussing with other NGOs how to integrate the relief goods.  The relief goods will be sent to the quake-hit areas soon. We hope the people in the disaster-hit areas will start their new life as soon as possible with help from loving people everywhere.

An’ding Loving Public Welfare Association: Project Report for June

7/22/2013

Loving Public Welfare Association of An’ding District,Dingxi City of Gansu Province is consisted of teachers and students from universities, which is engaged in helping vulnerable groups by means of voluntary services.

June is a busy month. We’ve done a lot and achieved a lot. Here are some pictures and stories we would like to share with you.

On June 10, training was held at a school of voluntary teachers.

On June 20, the color and style of uniforms for the voluntary teachers was fixed. On June 28,  the uniforms were completed.

On June 20, our newsletter was printed, which included information on major disaster relief, support for poor students, remote areas visitation, voluntary teaching activity during the summer holiday, etc.

On June 13,an activity to support prevention of major illnesses for children from poverty stricken families was held. 2000-20000 RMB is provided to children suffering from a major illness annually. The applications for aid are being reviewing by the Shanghai Wumengchao Medical Science and Technology Fund.

On June 22, the Association visited remote areas to complete a water project as well as check up on project outcomes in the schools.

July is coming and voluntary teaching will start on July 8. Please pay attention to our activity. We believe we can bring hope for the west through our efforts.

Loving Public Welfare Association of Dingxi City: Water Project

7/7/2013

Loving Public Welfare Association of Anding District,Dingxi City of Gansu Province is consisted of teachers and students from universities, which is engaged in helping vulnerable groups by means of voluntary services.

Water is the source of life. As society develops, safe drinking water becomes a huge priority. Without safe water, we will not have better health, let alone a harmonious well-off society.

In the west of China, factors such as low rainfall, strong light, large evaporation and so on are disturbing the lives of local people. Building concrete cisterns and using facilities as roofs, yards and ditches to store water are the main solutions. However, the problem of water safety in cisterns cannot be ignored. During previous visits, we found many students drink water from the cistern of the school directly, which is a health hazard. In response, we installed professional water purification equipment for some of the schools in Dingxi City by cooperating with the Jiuyang Company, which has greatly ensured the safety of the drinking water for the students and has provided a better environment for them to grow up healthily.

Many schools in rural areas have benefited from this project. We hope more loving people and manufacturers for water purification equipment will join us to provide safe water for the children living in remote areas.

Loving Public Welfare Association of Anding District: Measure World by Feet

6/18/2013

Loving Public Welfare Association of Anding District,Dingxi City of Gansu Province is consisted of teachers and students from universities, which is engaged in helping vulnerable groups by means of voluntary services.

Visiting the people we sponsor has always been an important job at the Association. On the one hand we contact people and organizations who are willing to donate money, and on the other hand, we visit potential clients. In recent years, we have visited thousands of poverty-stricken students, covering 10 provinces and cities around Gansu and Ningxia.

On May 15th, 2013, volunteers visited Gejiacha Primary School in Anding District and distributed gifts to the students. Later, they visited more people we sponsor. Their goal is to visit all of the 500 people that we sponsor.
