Meet Our Staff: Yunyun in Lanzhou

4/21/2016

Our field staff in China work diligently to implement the transparency practices we're known for. We're especially grateful for Yunyun, who is based in our Lanzhou office in Gansu—an area where charity work is difficult and pioneering. We're happy to announce that she recently became our Lanzhou Office Manager.

Yunyun puts her whole heart into what she does. We honor her for her passionate service and dedication. We owe a major part of our poverty alleviation efforts to her, especially the sponsorship program for children's congenital heart disease surgery. We congratulate her this Mother's Day for being a first-year mom! Yunyun has already demonstrated the qualities of a mother in how she treats LRS—with as much sacrifice and commitment as to her own child.

Behind the Scenes: How We Help Our Partners Achieve Transparency

4/20/2016

Picture
Promoting transparency in NGOs is so important to us, it's in our name.

We help nonprofits develop the disciplines of transparency, both for their long-term benefit and for the sake of the donors.

If you're curious about how we help the NGOs in our network achieve excellence in transparency, then here are some specific examples.

Quarterly Evaluations

Transparent Fish Fund evaluates our strategic partners' project on a quarterly basis based on the following criteria for excellent practices in Transparency:
  • financial reports are submitted and accurate
  • project objectives are clearly described and being evaluated quarterly
  • impact is clearly described via project reports and represented by numbers when applicable
  • TFish internal staff have performed due diligence visits to verify all information described is true and check that beneficiaries are receiving 100% of donations sent
  • partner provides sufficient information on beneficiaries to create full impact reports to send to donors by each year end

News: Adopt a Family Launched on Mother's Day

5/11/2015

Picture
Think of the maternal love we just celebrated this Mother's Day—warmth…commitment… nurture…care.

TFish Fund presents an opportunity for you to give that same kind of love and care to families in Gansu who need your help.

Adopt a Family

Picture
With your support, TFish Fund has already helped at least 1,000 children get the treatment they need for their congenital heart disease. While successful treatment opens up new possibilities for these families, they still have felt needs.

Our goal has always been to sponsor their surgery and then to follow up with post-surgery care, particularly with efforts to relieve poverty.

We’re inviting you to adopt a family in Gansu for a year. Each of these families struggles to meet their basic needs, and your support will empower them toward overcoming poverty.

Mother’s Day was the launch of this new program, which is run in-house by our own staff in Lanzhou. It will help the families become more self-sustaining in the future.

Develop a Long-Term Relationship

Adopt a family for a year, and at the end of the year, we’ll send you a letter to show the impact of your donation, how it was used effectively and responsibly.

We hope your commitment to your adopted family will continue even beyond a year. We’ll send you an annual update on the family if you choose to sponsor long-term.

You can also speak with our local staff who visits the family. We welcome your questions and any messages you’d like to relay to the family. We’ll be a bridge to help you and your adopted family connect for a long-term relationship.

Personally experience how your investment changes lives and touches hearts.

Choose a Family

Throughout the year we will introduce more of the 1,000 post-CHD surgery families who need ongoing support. To start with, TFish invites you to adopt one of these first 8 families. Our staff have suggested a donation amount according to each family’s needs, but any amount is welcome.

Committed Love Keeps Giving

Just like a mother’s sacrificial love keeps giving for the good of her children, your ongoing support is transformational for these children. Help the next generation break the cycle of poverty, one family at a time.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity! Hope your family enjoyed a wonderful Mother’s Day!

News: Happy Easter

4/5/2015

Over two-thirds of China's 90 million children still live in rural areas.

Many of these children do not have access to proper nutrition, healthcare, or education. In fact in some villages, a household's primary source of income is donating blood. We know from personal experience that a little can go a long way for struggling rural families.

The photo above is from one of our nutrition programs in ShengLi Elementary School, located in the mountainous regions of Western China. Thanks to donors like you, this kindergarten class is ready for a fresh day of learning.

This Easter, we hope to spread warmth to those in need. Join us this week in supporting poverty alleviation programs in Asia!

“I would really like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Chao, Director Nguyen, and the entire team. Today we received $2,240 from Transparent Fish Fund. During the first quarter of 2013, Xi’an Nonprofit Alliance gave 101 children one-to-one funding, supported 2 severe illness cases (Qiuyan and Bai Tiantian), and raised over ¥160,000 from the public, with 100% of the money send to families in need. We helped over 180 seniors and children from both rural and urban communities, sending them supplies worth over ¥30,000. Over 3000 volunteers enlisted. We were able to achieve so much mostly thanks to Transparent Fish Fund’s support. Because TFish freed us from extra worries, we were able to achieve great things. That is why we would like to thank again Mr. and Mrs. Chao, Director Nguyen, and the entire TFish team. We will strive to achieve more, help more people, get more residents to participate in volunteer activities, develop hand-in-hand with more other nonprofit organizations, and spread farther and wider the spirit of TFish and of volunteerism in the second quarter of 2013.” Kong Bin, Xian Volunteer Association, 4/12/2013

“After returning from the conference in Beijing, we had a short but warm and happy gathering. After working wearily away from home for a year, I returned to my home, was met with love, understanding, and support, and found my heart full of gratitude and newfound strength. While people’s own lives may be full of disappointments, Mr. Chao and Transparent Fish Fund called on many Chinese with a passion for service to start a series of public, nonprofit work. This action deserves applaud and is very encouraging. Even if we are sometimes discontent with our government, our country did not prevent us from using our knowledge, strength, and compassion to start philanthropic work and to provide the platform for others to continue them. We are content to be able to do something to help the Chinese people. What does Mr. and Mrs. Chao want in return for what they do? What does every nonprofit worker want in return? All of us know what that is deep down. Basically, we gain happiness from our work.” Mrs. Zhou Counseling Center, 10/19/2012

“What Transparent Fish Fund means to me: 1. TFish Fund makes it easy to support your organization. As long as you agree with the concept of financial transparency, TFish will teach you how to become transparent. Through interacting with you, TFish will influence you to become more financially transparent own your own. 2. TFish solves the administration cost problem encountered by small nonprofits by giving you support and helping you stay afloat financially. At the same time you can gather more support by advertising financial transparency. TFish really gives nonprofits that want to succeed the opportunity to become successful. 3. TFish supports you through things such as micro-loans that reinvigorates you and prevents great organizations with a vision and the courage to fulfill it from failing just because of a temporary setback. TFish is really special and amazing in this sense because there are so many friends who would give you lots of money if you succeed, but none when you are still small. Us small charities do not need big hopes, we need to survive. Wang Jichang, Jiaozuo Education Society, 06/04/2013

“I would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Chao for their continued support of Grace. In 2013, they gave Grace’s Leprosy Project a total of ¥30,000, filling our budget and independent planning costs. With help from Transparent Fish Fund, help from volunteers from home and abroad, and efforts put in by the entire Grace team and rehabilitation patients, our project is now completely finished. Our 2013 project implementation and completion spurred enormous reactions from the rehabilitation villagers and areas around them. Grace now also has a clearer understanding of TFish’s vision of “Transparent finances, transparent philanthropy.” Nonprofit organizations can only grow stronger with practicing transparency.” Dr. Liang Ping, Shalom Leprosy, 2/14/2014

“In 2012 with the support of Transparent Fish Fund, everyone of us young farm workers learned and experienced something new. We would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Chao, Nancy, and everyone from TFish who has helped us. We thank you for your compassion, for your ongoing help and support. We will diligently continue with our work and let more impoverished children receive this kind of education. There are still many unknowns that lie ahead of us, but with your support, we feel very warm and secure along the way...” Student: Liu Ying, Xingzhi Migrant Art School 2/08/2013

“Dear Mr. Chao and Transparent Fish Fund team: We would like take this opportunity to express our gratitude and the gratitude expressed by seniors under our care. We are very honored to be selected for the “2014 TFish Partner Award.” This award as an affirmation for our work, but at the same time we understand that it is also an encouragement for us to take on the difficulties and challenges in our future work. We will continue to work hard with your support and encouragement. Our center wishes the best for Mr. Chao and the team.” Feng Ling Chongqing Xinyue Senior Center, 8/29/2014 “When Xinyue was chosen as the most moving or most translated organization, we felt guilty because compared to the other organizations, we still have a lot to do. We witness many touching stories in our communities and are able to see the beautiful side of humanity. Thank you for your attention and support, and we belatedly wish that all of you will have a great year ahead!” Feng Ling, Xinyue Senior Center, 01/03/2014

“Dear Mr. Chao, Mrs. Chao, and the entire team at Transparent Fish Fund: Thank you so much for your continued, dedicated, and touching compassion towards our little “birds.” Because Jingjie Bird Recuperation Home mainly helps disabled children from impoverished households, the fees paid by the parents are not even close to covering our administration costs. Your support and understanding are what motivates us to continue forward when we are met with difficulties. Your efficient professional practices give us a model to strive toward in our own work. The children, teachers, and parents of our home would like to thank you again for your support.” Feng Zhaohao Jingjie Bird Recuperation Home, 10/07/2013

News: TFish in September: LRS Summer Camp

9/22/2014

We wanted to share some amazing stories from the recent LRS Summer Camp where we perform follow up care through poverty relief programs. This summer, we held our second camp for our children after congenital heart surgery. These children have spent too much of their young lives in and out of hospitals. Not only was this the first time any of these children have attended a "camp," it was their first experience in a city! Now that they've recovered, we want to help build their self-esteem by showing our love and care through educational activities.

This isn't an easy task. Our camp attendees all come from poor rural families, and are further isolated and stigmatized because of their poor health. They do not have the opportunities and leisure time kids are expected to have. Being low-income and in poor health, they have never had a chance for "play" or attend school. Our goal is to help build their self-esteem and inspire them to believe in themselves and their potential as many start school for the first time in September.

This summer was full of many "firsts", but we hope there are no "lasts". We genuinely believe in the impact this camp can have on rural children and will continue to help our young patients grow to be healthy, happy adults. Our goal is to hold this program every year, for as many children in need as possible! If you have the chance, please help keep our program alive and support this cause! It only costs $200 to sponsor a child for camp. Click here to give. If you would like to travel to Gansu, China, and volunteer at next year's camp, please fill out this form.
