Our field staff in China work diligently to implement the transparency practices we're known for. We're especially grateful for Yunyun, who is based in our Lanzhou office in Gansu—an area where charity work is difficult and pioneering. We're happy to announce that she recently became our Lanzhou Office Manager.
Yunyun puts her whole heart into what she does. We honor her for her passionate service and dedication. We owe a major part of our poverty alleviation efforts to her, especially the sponsorship program for children's congenital heart disease surgery. We congratulate her this Mother's Day for being a first-year mom! Yunyun has already demonstrated the qualities of a mother in how she treats LRS—with as much sacrifice and commitment as to her own child. Promoting transparency in NGOs is so important to us, it's in our name. We help nonprofits develop the disciplines of transparency, both for their long-term benefit and for the sake of the donors. If you're curious about how we help the NGOs in our network achieve excellence in transparency, then here are some specific examples. Quarterly EvaluationsTransparent Fish Fund evaluates our strategic partners' project on a quarterly basis based on the following criteria for excellent practices in Transparency:
Think of the maternal love we just celebrated this Mother's Day—warmth…commitment… nurture…care. TFish Fund presents an opportunity for you to give that same kind of love and care to families in Gansu who need your help. Adopt a FamilyWith your support, TFish Fund has already helped at least 1,000 children get the treatment they need for their congenital heart disease. While successful treatment opens up new possibilities for these families, they still have felt needs. Our goal has always been to sponsor their surgery and then to follow up with post-surgery care, particularly with efforts to relieve poverty. We’re inviting you to adopt a family in Gansu for a year. Each of these families struggles to meet their basic needs, and your support will empower them toward overcoming poverty. Mother’s Day was the launch of this new program, which is run in-house by our own staff in Lanzhou. It will help the families become more self-sustaining in the future. Develop a Long-Term RelationshipAdopt a family for a year, and at the end of the year, we’ll send you a letter to show the impact of your donation, how it was used effectively and responsibly. We hope your commitment to your adopted family will continue even beyond a year. We’ll send you an annual update on the family if you choose to sponsor long-term. You can also speak with our local staff who visits the family. We welcome your questions and any messages you’d like to relay to the family. We’ll be a bridge to help you and your adopted family connect for a long-term relationship. Personally experience how your investment changes lives and touches hearts. Choose a FamilyThroughout the year we will introduce more of the 1,000 post-CHD surgery families who need ongoing support. To start with, TFish invites you to adopt one of these first 8 families. Our staff have suggested a donation amount according to each family’s needs, but any amount is welcome. Committed Love Keeps GivingJust like a mother’s sacrificial love keeps giving for the good of her children, your ongoing support is transformational for these children. Help the next generation break the cycle of poverty, one family at a time.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity! Hope your family enjoyed a wonderful Mother’s Day! Over two-thirds of China's 90 million children still live in rural areas.
Many of these children do not have access to proper nutrition, healthcare, or education. In fact in some villages, a household's primary source of income is donating blood. We know from personal experience that a little can go a long way for struggling rural families. The photo above is from one of our nutrition programs in ShengLi Elementary School, located in the mountainous regions of Western China. Thanks to donors like you, this kindergarten class is ready for a fresh day of learning. This Easter, we hope to spread warmth to those in need. Join us this week in supporting poverty alleviation programs in Asia! Pictured: Primary school kids in impoverished rural schools eating free lunches from TFISH donations.

In the spirit of giving, our board members cooked a homemade Christmas Dinner for over 100 families and children in East Palo Alto from Bayshore Christian Ministries Bible study program and O'Keefe tutoring program. We wouldn't have been able to do it without our wonderful volunteers.

We wanted to share some amazing stories from the recent LRS Summer Camp where we perform follow up care through poverty relief programs. This summer, we held our second camp for our children after congenital heart surgery. These children have spent too much of their young lives in and out of hospitals. Not only was this the first time any of these children have attended a "camp," it was their first experience in a city! Now that they've recovered, we want to help build their self-esteem by showing our love and care through educational activities.
This isn't an easy task. Our camp attendees all come from poor rural families, and are further isolated and stigmatized because of their poor health. They do not have the opportunities and leisure time kids are expected to have. Being low-income and in poor health, they have never had a chance for "play" or attend school. Our goal is to help build their self-esteem and inspire them to believe in themselves and their potential as many start school for the first time in September. This summer was full of many "firsts", but we hope there are no "lasts". We genuinely believe in the impact this camp can have on rural children and will continue to help our young patients grow to be healthy, happy adults. Our goal is to hold this program every year, for as many children in need as possible! If you have the chance, please help keep our program alive and support this cause! It only costs $200 to sponsor a child for camp. Click here to give. If you would like to travel to Gansu, China, and volunteer at next year's camp, please fill out this form. |
