Cai Ping's family is part of our Adopt a Family program to help them become more self-sustainable financially. Thanks to our donors Dean & Shwu-Hui Chang and Dr. Samuel So who sponsored this family, we are steering them in the right direction and helping them establish goals for the future.
On February 17, 2016 Cai Ping was able to buy a small cow for the family. The pictures below were sent from Cai Ping’s daughter, Nana. Our staff stays in touch with the family, as is shown in the chats below. ResultsThanks to the support from Transparent Fish Fund, Yunnan Leprosy has accomplished the following:
For the families and children living on Cambodia’s largest lake, the Tonle Sap, their houses and their schools actually float on the lake! But none of these floating houses and schools have toilets, meaning that waste goes straight into the same water that the children and their families use to bathe, wash, cook, swim and drink. There is also little awareness in these communities and schools of the link between sanitation and hygiene and health. World Toilet Organization (WTO) partnered with Wetlands Work! (WW!) in late 2015 for a project to install revolutionary floating toilets and introduce sanitation and hygiene education in floating schools in Cambodia, and later to pilot the system in Bangladesh.
The project aims to eliminate open defecation in the target schools by encouraging students to use toilets, improve sanitation and hygiene awareness in the schools and the communities at large, reduce school absences due to diarrhea, and increase school attendance especially for girls, as well as driving demand for household toilets.
Prayer Request: Healing and Jobs for New GroupPlease pray for another group of workers that just arrived at the shelter. So many workers are mistreated, and as they suffer, their families back home also suffer.
For example, three men were illegally assigned to work at a big restaurant and were forced to work from 5am to 8pm with no breaks. They were paid 12,000 NTD (a little less than $400 USD). Another example is a lady who just left the shelter to care for an elderly man. The elderly man just liked to sleep in the same room with her and took his clothes off. She couldn't take it and went back to a shelter at a different location. Stories similar to these abound. These migrant workers not only need jobs, but far more than that, they need God to heal their hurts and wounds. |
