With the principles of “serve the society, dedicate love, help others and delight ourselves," Changzhou Volunteers Association actively promotes volunteerism around the city.
Angel is a pretty and lovely girl. Her father would accompany her on her way back home from school every day. Happiness ended abruptly on January 9. In the afternoon, Angel’s father came to the school as usual after work. He went to a little restaurant near the school and ate noodle, but he fell on the ground and died suddenly. The sudden death of her father, understandably, greatly saddened and depressed the young girl.
Angel’s grandparents are villagers and do not have pension. They have to take care of Angel's 3-year-old step brother. Now the only bread earner of the family is her stepmother. The family was thrown into turmoil. Learning of this, some volunteers called the Association and donated 1000 RMB to the family. In January, another volunteer donated 2000 RMB to Angel. Meanwhile, the local community and school have been providing support to Angel. Angel's classmates donated over 4000 RMB for her, and the villagers and other loving people collected about 70,000 RMB for the family.
To show their thankfulness, little Angel and her mother came to the senior citizen care center with volunteers from the Association and helped cut hairs for the elderly. “When my husband died, people supported and cared for us. I would like to return that favor with my skill and help others in need as well,” she said.
