Little Red Scarf is an NGO that sponsors congenital heart surgeries for diseased children.
Jiayu is 4 with a big head and slim limbs. She suffers from congenital heart defects, so she looks short and thin then her contemporaries. Her parents divorced when she was 9 months old and her mother takes care of her.
To pay Jiayu’s medical bills, her mother decided to work in the city, leaving Jiayu to the care of her grandmother when she was 2. Her mother is a cleaner of a hotel with 1400 RMB ($220) per month for the whole family including Jiayu’s medical care. Jiayu is weak and often catches colds due to the heart trouble.
After she was hospitalized for the operation, she had to accept transfusion therapy every day for her severe anemia. She did not like transfusion. She would cry and hide in her grandmother’s arms whenever she saw the nurse. Her mother and grandmother worried about her. She has experienced so much pain. We hope she will grow happily and healthfully after the surgery.
