LRS Care Profile #18: Yi Hong
Enable Yi Hong’s grandmother to get the healthcare she needs.
Single Parent Home
Yi Hong received surgery in 2014 with the support of LRS. He comes from a single parent home because his mother left him and his younger brother when he was 2. The children were raised by their grandmother and father. Yi Hong’s father found work in Langzhou, which is near enough so he can still do some field work at home.
Grandmother Suffers from Poor Health
Yi Hong’s grandmother is 66 and has been in poor health. She’s had a chronic cough for years but is reluctant to spend money to be examined. When Yi Hong had surgery, she still did not want to spend money to treat her illness. She knows it’s difficult for the family to earn money, so she’s just been taking some medicine to help alleviate the symptoms. However, her health has worsened year after year. Sometimes, when she felt exceptionally sick, she got injections at the village clinic. She now has to take medicine every day to treat her severe bronchitis. The medicine expenses can be at least $970–$1600 USD.
Improving the Whole Family’s Health
We hope the grandmother can have a thorough check-up in a hospital. She will be able to take better care of her 2 grandchildren when she’s in good health. The family’s biggest hope is for the grandmother’s health to improve so that Yi Hong and his sister can be raised in a healthy way.
