Without the love and care from Qiqi’s adoptive parents, Qiqi would not be who she is today. She is the treasure of the family, and everyone loves her. She is a very lucky girl growing up in a family like this, especially since her birth parents abandoned her.
The family’s land was expropriated due to road repair. Taking into account Qiqi’s future schooling, her parents decided to rent a house about 10 square meters and used it to open up a grocery store. The house is both their livelihood and also their shelter.
At first, Qiqi’s father tried to do some bicycle repair work next to the store to make some extra money. However, since last year, his low back pain was getting so bad that he was not even able to sit, so he decided to close the repair shop.
Qiqi’s oldest brother is a construction worker. He works seven to eight months a year with an average monthly salary of 2000 RMB. He does not have the best health, and his parents always worry about him. Qiqi’s older sister is working for a wedding studio and is making 1300 RMB a month.
The biggest expense for the family is Qiqi’s second oldest brother who is currently going to college. He has 3 years of student loans, with 5000 RMB in loans a year, and he has to start paying it back after he graduates, which is in about three years. He is currently only in his first year of college. His parents give him 600 RMB a month to cover living expenses. The annual living cost is 5000 RMB.
Qiqi is now in kindergarten, which costs 2000 RMB a year. However, Qiqi will soon need to go to elementary school, which could reduce her school costs. The income from the grocery store combined with the income from Qiqi’s siblings makes the family’s annual income around 18,000-20,000 RMB. Other than paying the living expense for the second oldest brother, the rest of the money is used for buying groceries for themselves or medicine. The mother said their financial situation has always been tight, sometimes she even needs to help their relatives, so often times there is no money left. Her biggest wish is just to have enough money for them to spend. Now that the kids are grown, there will be new problems to face. The burden of the family corresponds with the children’s growth year by year.
