One Surgery Done, One More to Go
Li Yong is a 14-year-old boy with complex congenital heart disease. He underwent the first of a two-part surgery in mid-December. The second part is planned for this September.
Difficult Family Situation
Li Yong's grandfather passed away this year, and medical and funeral expenses exceeded $6,000. Li Yong's grandmother has lung cancer, and the treatments cost several hundred dollars per month.
Li Yong’s two-part surgery will cost over $30,000, of which only a third can be paid from health insurance. A foreign surgeon, Dr. James St Louis of Children’s Heart Link, helped train Kunming cardiac surgeons to do Li Yong’s first surgery. He volunteered to do this pro-bono, saving the family $5,000. The family obtained the rest of the funds for the first surgery from a Chinese foundation, but they have no money to pay for the second part, which will cost about $20,000.
Partnering to Help
Transparent Fish Fund is partnering with California Heart Watch to raise funds for Li Yong’s surgery. Our fundraising goal is at least $5,000. According to their China Director, Robert Detrano MD PhD, they will find matching funds for every donation we find, up to $10,000.
Let's help Li Yong get the second surgery he needs!
