​Nayong: Children in Disadvantage Situations

Compassion Nayong Public Welfare is based on Nayong, a poverty-stricken area in Guizhou Province. Taking the network as the platform, it carries out various public welfare activities to aid education.

Compared with other families, their situations are relevantly better. The children have parents, though their father works away and their mother has mental problems. They are a complete family.

Ping Ping is in grade 2. His older sister, Shu Qing is in grade 5. They go to the same primary school which is far away from their home. They have to walk for about 1 hour on the mountainous roads, which did not hinder them to go to school. Shu Qing does well at school. She has a big dream. She told the social worker she wanted to study hard so that to do something good for her hometown. Ping Ping likes drawing. He wants to be a painter when he grows up.

The article was written by Shu Qing. It was incredible for a rural children to write such a fancy science fiction scene. In the fiction, she is a scientist with assistant, lab in the Mars, machine dog, 6C5B mobile phone, spaceship company, etc. The social worker was surprised by her imagination. Shu Qing told us she learned a few passages about science in their Chinese text book and she also learned from TV. Apart from rich imagination, she has strong learning capacity. She is humor and has good observation.

The food that the family eats every day

Shu Qing and Ping Ping helps doing housework, like feeding pigs

Shu Qing and Ping Ping live with their grandparents who are always busy with the field work. Shu Qing and Ping Ping also help to do some housework when their school was off. Shu Qing was cutting vegetables for pigs when we met her. Seeing us, they were running towards us happily. They greeted us to sit down. They believe we are good persons.
 
When we asked about their parents, their smiles disappeared. Their grandfather said their mother had been suffering from mental disease for over 5 years. She was not able to take care of the children. She could not find the way home. They were afraid she might be lost one day. They had taken her to 3 hospitals, but she could not be cured. They hoped the hospital could keep her, but the doctor could not define her symptoms clearly. Their father work away all year around in order to earn enough money for her disease. He called home quite often and concerned the family.

We were upset to see the unhappy children. The saddest thing is their mother does not recognize them though she is near. She could not find the way home quite often. For young children, it was cruel. Now the children take care of their mother as a mother takes care of her children. They hope she would recover with their companying.

I was in deep sadness in writing all these. There’s regret without mother’s love for the children. Fortunately, they have relatives and friends. Social workers care about them and the family. We hope the beautiful things will stay in the heart of the children and accompany them to grow up. ​
