One Heart World-Wide: Updates from Bhojpur

One Heart World-Wide's mission is to decrease maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity in remote rural areas. Our partnership with them is helping women in Bhojpur, Nepal receive skilled birth attendant training.

Skilled Birth Attendant Spotlight: Ms. Bishnu Gurung

Ms. Bishnu Gurung, Auxiliary Nurse Midwife, has worked for the past two years at Annapurna Health Post, Bhojpur. Two months ago, Ms. Bishnu received Skilled Birth Attendant (SBA) training with support from One Heart World-Wide.

SBA training has given me more strength and courage to save lives at birth.

“This training was beneficial as we learned many clinical technicalities to save and protect both the mother’s and baby’s life. Before this training I was unable to handle the delivery complications. I was in a dilemma before, but now after getting this training I am confident in my ability to save the lives of mothers and newborns by giving them proper care as needed.  Indeed SBA training has given me more strength and courage to save lives at birth.”

Ms. Bishnu thinks that this training has solved a lot of problems that were present previously.  
“Before the training there used to be a lot of complications related to the delivery, which had to be referred to the district hospital for management. That took four hours by vehicle and 10 hours by foot. Pregnant women who are referred are always at risk during the transportation. SBA training has improved the way we take care of mothers and newborns by enabling us to manage birth complications locally, unless the case is too serious to be referred. I am really grateful  to One Heart World-Wide for providing financial support for my SBA training, which is helping to save the lives of mothers and newborns  in these remote rural areas of Bhojpur, Nepal during and after delivery.”

Updates

Here are some quick updates and snapshots of the work One Heart World-Wide has been doing in Bhojpur.

1) Healthcare Training

Participants of Health Facility Operation and Management committee (HFOMC) training in Pyauli Primary Health Care Centre. HFOMC members and Primary Health Care Center (PHCC) staff participated in the training.

2) Identifying Disadvantaged Groups

3) Training at the Birth Center

4) Self-Evaluation and Health Facility Visits

Supervision by the HFOMC members in Kot Birthing Centre during HFOMC training. During the training HFOMC members had to self-evaluate their activities. Before evaluation they had to visit the entire Health Facility.
