Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry: Teachers of Kunming International School Visit Yimen Leprosy Village Again
People with leprosy are sent to isolated villages where they are abandoned and forgotten by society. The Shalom Leprosy Compassion Ministry has a special place in its heart for these people and organizes groups of volunteers to travel to villages plagued with leprosy in order to provide medical, living, and psychological assistance.
On April 15, 2013, Led by Liang Ping from Shalom and volunteers, Maria, principal of Kunming International School, one of the teachers and some parents visited Yimen leprosy village again. Thanks to their participation, we have an increasing team with more and more volunteers.
Most of the teachers from International School have visited the leprosy and they joined Shalom to serve the clients. But for some the volunteers, in particular the parents, the leprosy village seemed mysterious to them. They still felt nervous. With the impact of the volunteers and the sincere smiles of the clients, they actively joined in the service.
The day passed quickly, people had to say good bye to these nice and plain friends. The visit came to the end and they had to take about 100 kilometers ride back to Kunming. Though they were tired physically, they were proud of their behaviors, especially the volunteers who visit the village the first time. They have done something unusual and their love had been brought to the leprosy village again and they also brought happiness to the people isolated in the mountains.
In May, Shalom will complete the solar-powered bath room for the leprosy village in Yiliang. In the meantime, Shalom will organize volunteers to visit the leprosy villages and provide help to the rehabilitation clients.
