Grounded on core values of respect, love, and service to the elderly, the Xin Yue Senior Citizen Service Center of Chongqing promotes social work services for senior citizens and builds harmonious living environment for them.
March 5th, 2013 is the Public Welfare Activity Day of China. To help children to learn more about the activity to show a caring heart, and develop their positive social values, the Center invited students from a secondary school and a primary school to participate in the service activity for the senior citizens.
Taking some fruits and interactive actions, 13 students from the secondary school came to the activity room for the elderly. With the introduction of the service workers, the children gave the fruits to the old persons. The children also taught them to do some handicrafts one on one. The children are cute. They always replied the old people’s questions and taught them patiently though they showed slow in actions. They could find something in common, so they talked happily and freely with each other without gap but with sincerity.
The next day, leading by the teacher, 8 primary students visited our senior citizens with 4 boxes of fruits. With a lovely day, we invited the old persons outside of the rooms to bask in the warm sun, and what’s more, to enjoy the happiness by playing with the children. When we distributed the fruits to them, the children began to introduce themselves and offered their best wishes to the old people as their grandparents. With the applause, the children performed songs and dances with health theme. The old people could not help singing along with the children. There were full of joys and endless gratitude on the site.
