Shiqi is in Grade 4 this year. His father died of cancer in 2010, which left the family fall into desperate poverty. The only source of income of the family comes from two pigs and his mother’s temp work. The mother’s eyes turned red when talking about the hardness of the life.
Xiefei is a sponsored student in 2012. His house is located near the road. It’s the 3rd time we visited him. He was weeping the first time we saw him in May. The second time we met him is in September and he looked shy and timid. This time he was quite different, a sunny boy with positive attitude. His father told us he was doing well at school with high scores in Chinese and Math. He had made great progress than the previous year.
Manqi’s father died in September last year. He was hit by a big falling tree. There are 4 persons in the family. They are 80-year grandfather, brother who is attending college, mother and little Manqi. All expense s as living cost and tuition are on a few thousands Yuan of income from selling tea leaves. The mother’s shoulders could no longer bear such a heavy burden. She couldn’t help breaking down in tears when seeing us.
At noon, we came to Lin Jian’s home under a highway bridge. Lin Jian is a 9-year-old boy, but he looks like a child in preschool. He is 1.4 meters tall and his mother was a sanitation worker for the highway with about 700RMB income per month. She had been hospitalized due to work injury for some time and could not work now. His father had to take care of them at home.
Li Qintao and his mother live in an abandon firework plant. They moved here after his mother divorced. With hard working, his mother transformed a wasted plant without the roof into a shelter from the rain and wind in less than half year. Qintao always did temp work in the cold storage with her mother during school holidays. He is clever and capable and could earn a few hundreds of Yuan in school holidays. Now his cost of living at school is not a problem.
