In the morning of August 21, 15 volunteers visited Red Sun Nursing Home. They hope to bring warmness and happiness to the elderly living there. When they arrived at the nursing home, they were divided into groups and began to take hot water for the elderly to soak feet, cut nails, clean the rooms and chat with them. For the whole morning, we heard various life experiences, for wonderful or bitterness. We were brought back to a period of severe material shortages. Looking at the wrinkles on their faces, we saw the signs of aging. We did whatever we can do at nursing home. We released our energy and received full life experience in the meanwhile. Dear Mr. & Mrs. Chao, and Transparent Fish Fund, The Changzhou Volunteer Association would like to thank you all for providing us with funding and support! We are a non-profit organization that provides volunteer services, organizes community service activities, advocates for dedication, friendship, and social awareness. We seek to improve the living quality of the people, improve the social climate and promote a love and passion for social service as well as the spirit of helping others. Thank you for helping us fulfill our goals. Story 1: In August, many students entered our school, but because of the financial situations of families that live in Jintan Mao Shan Xue Peng Shan village, there are many children that have difficult family situations. Changzhou Student Volunteer Association president Jing Hua and bureau director Li Peng represented the volunteer association, worked together with the Cultural Exchange Center, and went to the Punta mountain village to participate in activities that promoted education and kindness. Wonderful people donated many books to them, and they supported ten children by donating a total of 10,000 books. We believe that the children are the flowers of the motherland; they are tomorrow's sunrise. Poverty should never prevent them from reaching their dreams and aspirations. To us, a scholarship may only be able to buy us a meal for the day, but for them it can make a big difference and help them reach their dreams. We wish them all a bright future! Half a month ago, 6 children from a village in Yunnan left their home in the mountains and flew to Changzhou. They are from the Yi ethnic minority, and this was their first time leaving their homes and taking a plane. Meanwhile, the volunteers had prepared many great activities for them. They created an interactive curriculum and planned tours for every day of the visit. Some community members knew the children were coming, and they gave the children a warm welcome. Though the children were not familiar with life in the city, they experienced something different, and they were thrilled to attend the games and activities. In 10 days, the children visited the museum, parks, and the zoo. They also had a day to experience family life in Changzhou. The itinerary was full each day. The students obviously valued this experience very much and tried to do as much as possible in one day. Time flew by and suddenly, it was time to leave. Farewell, children, we hope you have a bright future. It was a three-day activity, we visited places inhabited by the migrant workers, construction sites and sanitation office. We brought about 5000 pieces of dumplings and cooked on the sites for them. They came to the city and work to make a living. They are normal workers working at the constructions sites in the city or elsewhere on the roads, cleaning the city. They live like ordinary people, but their contribution for the city development cannot be ignored. Our beautiful streets, landmarks, nice and warm apartment, etc., all of the buildings we are proud of are inseparable from their hard work. They are part of the city. On the occasion of the Labor’s Day, we brought bowls of dumplings to them, hoping they would spend a warmer festival. Angel is a pretty and lovely girl. Her father would accompany her on her way back home from school every day. Happiness ended abruptly on January 9. In the afternoon, Angel’s father came to the school as usual after work. He went to a little restaurant near the school and ate noodle, but he fell on the ground and died suddenly. The sudden death of her father, understandably, greatly saddened and depressed the young girl. Angel’s grandparents are villagers and do not have pension. They have to take care of Angel's 3-year-old step brother. Now the only bread earner of the family is her stepmother. The family was thrown into turmoil. Learning of this, some volunteers called the Association and donated 1000 RMB to the family. In January, another volunteer donated 2000 RMB to Angel. Meanwhile, the local community and school have been providing support to Angel. Angel's classmates donated over 4000 RMB for her, and the villagers and other loving people collected about 70,000 RMB for the family. To show their thankfulness, little Angel and her mother came to the senior citizen care center with volunteers from the Association and helped cut hairs for the elderly. “When my husband died, people supported and cared for us. I would like to return that favor with my skill and help others in need as well,” she said.
