We visited Chen Ping’an and his mother again on January 25, 2013. We saw that he was washing vegetable leaves collected from the market. The vegetable leaves are their daily food supply. Chen was born in 1964 in Henan province. He came to Xi’an with his parents and five sisters when he was a child. When he was young, he was arrested for robbery and sent to jail. His mother faithfully visited him at jail every day, and her dedication moved him deeply. Ark Welfare is a non-profit established in Hechi City, Guangxi. Angel is a pretty and lovely girl. Her father would accompany her on her way back home from school every day. Happiness ended abruptly on January 9. In the afternoon, Angel’s father came to the school as usual after work. He went to a little restaurant near the school and ate noodle, but he fell on the ground and died suddenly. The sudden death of her father, understandably, greatly saddened and depressed the young girl. Angel’s grandparents are villagers and do not have pension. They have to take care of Angel's 3-year-old step brother. Now the only bread earner of the family is her stepmother. The family was thrown into turmoil. Learning of this, some volunteers called the Association and donated 1000 RMB to the family. In January, another volunteer donated 2000 RMB to Angel. Meanwhile, the local community and school have been providing support to Angel. Angel's classmates donated over 4000 RMB for her, and the villagers and other loving people collected about 70,000 RMB for the family. To show their thankfulness, little Angel and her mother came to the senior citizen care center with volunteers from the Association and helped cut hairs for the elderly. “When my husband died, people supported and cared for us. I would like to return that favor with my skill and help others in need as well,” she said. With the Chinese New Year dawning, volunteers held rich and colorful activities for the community's senior citizens at the Service Center on January 31, 2013. At 9 in the morning, the ceremony planned by Xin Yue Senior Citizen Service Center started. Madam Wang played Guzheng (a kind of Chinese musical instrument) while two old men, 92 and 98 respectively, performed calligraphy. Considering how some of the older men with paralysis could not go out for activities, we prepared fruits, traditional candies, and other nourishment for them. We also decorated their rooms with lanterns and window decorations. Chongqing Jian’ai Art is a paper-cutting company, supplemented by arts production and sales, and a new social enterprise that supports people with hemophilia.
Most people with hemophilia do not know that there are others in the world who are suffering the same fate. They live in their own world, and understandably so. They cannot go to school, learn any life skills. or get involved in work or any social activities due to their disabilities. They just stare at the sky, imagining other people’s world. We hold a paper-cutting training course for people with hemophilia and other disabilities. The purpose is to teach them a skill and help them see the hope of life. Every person with hemophilia has a strong heart within. They are eager to be accepted and forge a meaningful existence. They need to be helped, but they do not want to just receive without giving any effort. They desire to work hard and earn the fruits of their labor. We hope this will be many of their first steps to being integrated into society. We are dedicated and on our way to care for those who are needy. Please join us and help people with hemophilia integrate into our society - after all, each of us is a part of this world. There were 5 children discharged from the hospital in September 2012. We recently conducted a telephone interview of each of their families. We wanted to know how they were doing. Let’s share their recent developments: Green Wind Education Assistance promotes education in rural areas, through instilling the values and the joys of studying among children and through raising awareness among parents so that they will support their children in their educational pursuits.
Promoting rural education is a difficult business, as many people - including the teachers and the parents - hold a particular view as to what is best for their children and students. Most of them think that extracurricular books are not regular books and that only textbooks are capable of teaching the children. However, books like children's literature and picture books do influence children to study and understand the world around them. We hope to set up a room in the village school, filled with many different kinds of books, so that they will learn to share, think, imagine, and grow. |
